Or was it that Comedy Central let them "loose" so their comedy turned that way

It gets significantly less clever and funny

I thought later episodes had really nerdy book smart humor.

Maybe both. I definitely think the humor was a bit different after the movies. And the movies were definitely not as funny as the episodes from its first finale and earlier.

It was still fairly funny all the way to the end, though.

Oh come, that one's good. I almost died laughing at the gag with the lion.
Plus, the idea of a border fence is more relevant than ever....

This. The humour went in a similar direction to The Simpsons after season 10 or so. Can't quite put my finger on what you'd call it though.

I mean, they contain plenty of nerdy references but the humor isn't as cleverly done as true!seasons 1-5

There ARE some quality episodes but you know

Yeah I feel like in an admit to appeal to a wider audience they did way more current day pop culture. I mean there was always some early 2000 and before references before the revival, but they worked because they were more clever and done not as often. The revival jammed the references down your throat and were so lazy.

Susan Boyle and the IPhone episode were the worst offenders.

They've been phoning it in since the movies and the revival proved that in spades, especially the piece of shit finale episode.

I remember watching one of the revival episodes (the one where Lrrr and Ndnd break up) and disliking it. Never watched any of the other post-movie episodes
