I'm playing through Golden for the first time and DAMN is it good. Wish I got into this series sooner.

I've been told I may not enjoy 1 or 2 though and that 3 is much worse as well. What's so different about them?

Most people agree that 3 and 4 are sprung the same level. I personally think that 4 is a lot better than 3. 3 is too tedious because there's one huge dungeon (it's a tower) and all you do is run up the flights of the tower endlessly. Almost all of the characters are unlikable or boring except for like 3 of them. The villains are a joke. And the social links aren't as interesting as the ones in 4. You can't directly control the actions of your party members. It has the best soundtrack out of any of the games though.

P4 has been highly regarded forever, but now that the series is becoming mainstream trolls start to appear

The gameplay of P4 is dramatically superior to P3 (combat, dungeons. this is even moreso if you play FES or the original release instead of P3P) I think it's pretty inarguable that the CHARACTERS and setting of P4 are superior as well, but i understand having an attachment to characters from either p3 or p4 for whatever reason

whether or not the story is better is entirely subjective.

P2 and P1 are genuinely terrible games, especially if you compare them to RPGS that were released near the same time (CT, FF 6, 7)

No Social Links actually does sound a lot worse off. They really add a lot to the different characters you interact with.

3,4 and 5 are worth playing. I've heard good things about 2. Everyone agrees that 1 is garbage.

Depending on your preferences, you might like 2/3 more than 4. They aren't worse, per se, aside from technical shit like not being able to control your party in 3.

p1/2 = GRIND GRIND GRIND GRIND RANDOM BATTLES IT TAKES A GODAMN ETERNITY

p3 = AI allies, insane RNG, auto game over if main char dies (ie rng death spells, get hit by a single weakness, then get hit by it again on the enemy's extra turn). Tartarus is a damn slog.

What in 3 has insane RNG?

2 has a good plot but it's gameplay isn't great.

3 4 and 5 are all good

o_0 what's your main? None of the posters I was guessing you were could type this coherently nor would play Persona.

1 is simply bad

2 doesn't have the social sim/visual novel aspect and plays more like mainline SMT. The combat can be... Frustrating and basically comes down to fusing attacks and dealing with a clunky turn system. Negotiations are basically "Keep a guide up while you play" deal. The story and characters, however, are top fucking notch. Personally I prefer them to 3 and 4, but they're more niche.

3 is kinda iffy since the best version has a significant graphic & interactive downgrade. Story is much darker, characters aren't as much friends as they are people thrown into a similar situation.

I'd say 2 > 3 > 4, they're all good in a way and I'd suggest playing them all (besides 1, fuck 1)
