There are a couple of neat ideas and cool moments, but on the whole superhero stories are largely juvenile and stupid. They don't have to be, but for some reason they are.

Dudes and chicks in their underwear with OP powers that some 40 year old guy wrote about at his desk and got paid millions for it.

I enjoy very few superhero movies. The Nolan Batman movies were excellent (although DKR was meh), but it seems like literally every other superhero is getting the same dark approach that Nolan gave Batman. There's nothing original about any of them. Perhaps the worst one was Avengers 2, which stands as one of the worst, most unoriginal, predictable movies I have ever seen.

Deadpool was also a breath of fresh air but holy shit that movie is overrated. Its fans treat it like it was God's gift to the universe.

They're very hit or miss with me. I don't follow any superhero comics at all. The only superhero comics i've actually read were the killing joke and watchmen (after seeing the movie), but I've watched a lot of the superhero movies to come out\. I've also watched several of the animated and live action shows and enjoyed those. I've read worm and actually gotten into reading fanfic of it when I'm bored.

Basically, its not my preference, but I like a good superhero story now and then. I have different preferences than most hardcore superhero fans though.

I kinda want to say 4/5 because I really like the genre but, because I don't really follow comics, haven't started tv shows, and rarely am in a hurry to see things in theaters, it might be more of a 2 or 3/5 (based on 0 meaning no interest at all).

The sophmoric storylines annoy me more than the juvenile ones for some reason. I'm fine with some of the more quasi-intellectual storylines with moral ambiguity -- such as registration acts, consequences from heroics, civil rights, etc -- provided that the handling isn't the more silly handling when it seems like an easy compromise is available or it's pandering too far one on the socially acceptable side of an issue.

I prefer DKR to BB. Plus we had a dark approach starting with the Burton films, albeit it managed to keep a little camp in there.

And yes, Deadpool was good but seriously overrated because it had all of the problems with superhero origin stories including forcing in a love interest.

I also didn't touch Watchmen the comic until after the film, which made me appreciate the film even more for having done a pretty good job of covering the events.

I imagine his problem is unresolved feelings of inadequacy, social isolation, and and childhood trauma. But you'd need a team of psychoanalysts to really get to the bottom of what makes Shenti tick.

3/5

It used to be a 5/5, now it's a complete plague of them infesting everything that GoT and TWD haven't infected. DC's movies basically suck unilaterally, and the only Marvel stuff I like is either X-Men related or less conventional stuff like Guardians of the Galaxy. With me, if I am bombarded with anything too frequently over a long period of time I grow to resent it. Comics themselves are fine, though I rarely buy them anymore. I'll usually find a TPB set that interests me once a year and pick it up.

Definitely a 4. Loved heroes growing up. I enjoy watching movies, reading my old comic books about them.

It's a good distraction from a busy life; a bit nostalgic too. And great for imagination. If I wanted real life, I'd just go outside or watch the news.

Everyone can use an escape sometimes. And Super heroes aren't a bad choice.

1 or 2. I don't follow super heroes, and their over-saturating the entertainment industry has made me tired of hearing about them.

Back in the 90's I'd have rated them a 3. I didn't really follow them, but Lois & Clark: The Adventures of Superman was a fun series, as was the Spiderman cartoon series. I enjoyed Batman and Robin as well.

1/5 You can do them well, but a lot of the stories devolve into "how can we find ways to nullify their super powers?" Then the story becomes pretty predictable to the point that they pretty much write themselves. I tend to prefer the more vigilante stories better (Punisher, Elektra, The Shadow, etc.) Also, I hate the whole "Super heroes don't kill" thing, it is stupid and is a holdover from the silver and bronze age, in the golden age and pulps super heroes used to kill all the time and it was awesome!

Read the 1940's Batman, he used to kill the shit out of villains!

It hasn't been "nonstop" for 17 years, just the last 5-10 years. Before the Disney takeover of Marvel, the releases were happening at a more reasonable rate.

Plus a lot of the other stories involve duplicating their powers. Literally *both* Hulk solo flicks had the US government trying to engineer Hulk powers, with a gamma-powered villain being the ultimate enemy. Then you had Iron Monger doing the same in Iron Man and Whiplash in Iron Man 2. Captain America: The First Avenger had part of it involving people trying to copy the super soldier formula, etc.

Actually, the neutralizing stories might be rarer than the copy stories. The neutralize thing is really just a Superman plot and sometimes an X-Men one.
