Fran was fairly competent. Godot and Gavin were probably the least competent but at least it's for good reason.

Franziska is many things, but incompetent is not one of them.

Klavier is competent, too, really. I guess you could call Godot the "least competent," but he just takes a different approach from all the others.

I'm playing AA2 at the moment and Fran is kind of a mess in everything but competence.

I mean, he's fine, but nothing to get excited about, which is what you want from a prosecutor.

The next AA game should have an actual evil Prosecutor who ends up getting a guilty verdict in a case or two to make eventual victories feel more meaningful.

The seemingly evil Prosecutor at first who turns face in the final or penultimate case schtick is getting a little old. And I say that with great love for the series. The mainline ones that is. I have yet to play the Investigations games.

The prosecutors really stopped being "evil" after Franziska anyway. I guess you could argue Blackquill is supposed to be evil, but in practical matters, he's among the fairest of the bunch.

I'm trying to determine if we're arguing the same thing when we're arguing "competence." Franziska is very good at her job. She's a bad opponent in terms of it not being fun to beat her, but she's a good prosecutor.

You really can't count Von Karma as the main Prosecutor of AA1. And the Guilty verdict in 6-3 doesn't really count as it is made obsolete the very next scene.

Well the more I think about it, the more it is clear that it will never happen in future games as well. Ace Attorney is a light-hearted visual novel/adventure series despite being a courtroom/murder drama. Good prevailing over evil has always been a norm which is why we see things like Athena beating Simon and Nahyuta.

I realize the series will have to take a much darker theme if what I suggested happened and it wouldn't be Ace Attorney.

Blackquill is fantastic, yeah. Just finished up a replay of DD and he's one of the highlights of every case he's in.

I'm on day 1 trial of 6-3, I feel like they're doing a good job of long-form story-telling so far. Both within the game itself and storylines established in previous games. Although poor Athena feels like a character who's arc began and ended in DD and she totally feels just sorta there in 6-2.

Athena's a great sidekick when paired with Apollo though, so I don't really mind it too much.

Yeah, as much as I REALLY like Trucy, I think Athena and Apollo have better chemistry.

Trucy was pretty amazing in 6-2, too, though. Nice to see them finally give her a bit of character development.
