I really wish they could have worked out whatever the voice acting issue was with the movie that brought all the universes together.

It's still probably the best Turtles thing but having the original cast would have put it WAY over the top.

Absolutely, TC. The bulk of 2003 TMNT was flawless. (Not counting Fast Forward, that's barely part of the series, it took a quality dip due to budget dips).

Also the 2007 CGI movie doesn't get enough appreciation. That was a fantastic movie.

Turtles Forever was a lot of fun.

Did they get the original cast together for the similar one-off episode they did in Nickelodeon Turtles? I know Rob Paulsen is a regular voice, but what about the others?

still waiting for a blu ray version of turtles forever

The full movie is about 79 minutes and this was available to watch for free on the 4Kids website up until recently. 4Kids also made a version for broadcast edited to allow for commercials in a roughly 73 minute length. Now that Nick is officially the owner they for whatever reason put the broadcast version on DVD in it's non-anamorphic broadcast ratio. And they were made fully aware of the full version. Those few minutes may not seem like a lot of time but they really do add to the movie and fill in a couple plot holes.

I agree with TC. It was as great as TMNT could ever be.

I heard the recent Nick show is really good, but I haven't gave that one a shot yet.

The art style never appealed to me. I always thought they were trying too hard to be gritty. The original cartoon was actually pretty lame going back to it, but at least it lead to a ton of cool toys.

Never watched the 2003 version, but I did try the PS2 era games and they were shit compared to the NES/SNES/Genesis ones.

Yeah, TMNT games lost their charm once Konami lost the licence.

The TMNT Smash Bros. clone on Wii was actually pretty fun once you unlocked everything. Decently big roster and it was a modified version of Brawl's engine since Ubisoft actually hired former Smash Bros. staffers to help out with it.

Also, I think the defining moment that I realized TMNT 2012 is pretty bad was I saw some episode where they were fleeing the Krang, and April's dad had what was clearly a hippie van. Like, the classic cartoon VW bus with flowers painted all over it. He told them all to get in, and they all looked at the van puzzled, and he was like "Oh, yeah, it's back from my hipster days."

I assume most children know what a "hippie" is, though I could be wrong. Either way, the punchline opts for "hipster" instead, despite having nothing to do with hippies, just because hipster is a more recognizable term for really young kids now.

I could deal with April and Casey and other characters being aged down to kids, but when the writing of the show explicitly skews towards children, I decided once and for all it wasn't for me.

I couldn't.

That was just too weird for me. Like, they should have introduced new characters if the Turtles needed human friends their own age.

Also I don't wanna get TOO down on Nick TMNT. Even though the show is pretty bad, and the kindergarden spinoff of it is stupid too, I will say it's been great for the brand. 2003 TMNT was the greatest Turtles media ever, but ironically it didn't really boost popularity much. Blame Fox I guess. Nickelodeon knows how to market shit, and they've done a good job with it.

I only watched a couple episodes of the CGI one on Nick but nothing I saw made me think it was bad. It went back to the goofier route for TMNT than the serious one the '03 series did. That's fine, I just preferred '03's grittiness.

The original Teen Titans would have been a better tone for them. TMNT '03 was a lot of Japanese culture, a lot of gloom and doom, a lot of stuff that was gritty for the sake of being gritty, and a little teeny bit of comedy because, hey, they're Turtles.

If they'd been human, I would have loved that show. But as a quartet of talking turtles, I feel like that's something that has to be taken with a grain of salt. It's okay to have serious moments, and I prefer crisp action to slapstick, but I think they tried to hard too be dark and realistic.

There's a reason why the original comics were an underground fad and the original cartoon was a multi-million dollar success.

TMNT 2012 was the best until the show jumped the shark after they replaced Leo's voice actor with Seth Green. I'm not sure why, but the quality of the show's writing dropped a lot after that
