i'll preface this by saying i am a HUGE gears fan

it's probably the weakest in the franchise, after Judgment. The campaign has some cool moments, but the story is garbage (not that Gears is known for its story, but it's not an epic bro tale like the first 3), the characters are not very interesting at all, and the whole thing is only like 5 hours long. it just feels like a step back in every way, in terms of gameplay, enemy variety, bosses, level design, set pieces, etc. basically it's a decent time waster, but nothing more.

Multiplayer is a bit better. I think the balance is pretty solid and the new weapons work well. The original version of the game had some AWFUL microtransactions in it, but the dev has actually been fixing a lot of stuff so it's fairly enjoyable. The new Horde mode is fun as well, although I don't like that they added classes. this is probably my most played Xbox game at the moment.

overall I'd say it's worth a buy if you're a fan, but if you never got into Gears this isn't going to be the one to sway your opinion

for what it's worth, I had fun in Horde mode but I never managed to finish a full match because people kept quitting or dying

two levels in and this feels like a greatest hits of gears 1 except you don't play as the good characters. i don't even know who I'm supposed to be. some random private?

Yep, there's a Gary Carmine but I think he's just some background cameo in campaign. You can use him in multiplayer.

I mean the campaign. Gears of War multiplayer campaign was some of the best multiplayer couch co-op ever conceived.

it's pretty entertaining. i just got to the part with marcus and the locust so it looks like it's getting better. i still don't like any of the characters tho. haven't tried the multiplayer yet

im not sure that they're locust. there was just a quick cutscene of alien baddies then back to killing robots

There is a Carmine in the game. He's one of those villagers that helps you fend off the robot attack. He ends up getting crushed by one of those cubes that come out of the plane.

They didn't really "die", their bodies turned into this impenetrable crystal that the COG had to bury because they couldn't destroy them. The Swarm is the "successor" to the Locust. There is one specific enemy type of the swarm, Scions, who are ex-locust who survived went back underground for 25 years, and evolved. The new enemy types have yet to be properly explained, I think. Guessing it's along similar lines though (the weapon mutating and evolving the Locust instead of destroying them as thought).

It's a short game.

It's main characters don't have the charm of the original cast.

Marcus Fenix is still one of my favorite video game protagonists and he is sorely missed as the main lead.

His son just doesn't have that bravado, that grit.

The rehashing is a bit of a disappointment.

It's definitely the least favorable of the 4 main games. I never played judgement.

and they are locusts. The end of 3 put them into a cacoon like state where they went through a metamorphosis. They are basically a hivemind less locust now.

idk maybe that was explained in judgement. the COG were still the good guys in 3 iirc

i must've missed that part. i just saw him for a split second and when i turned around he was gone

i'm at the part where marcus gets captured by one of those things and we're tracking it down. im warming up to del and kait more but JD is such a cliche protagonist. maybe it's just that he had big shoes to fill being marcus' son but idk, i feel like i'm playing as jai courtney and that isn't good

there's a pleasant little surprise at the end of act 4 (that you can probably guess) that makes it all worth it. but yeah i found the new characters extremely bland as well, especially JD and Kait. i miss the extreme bromance vibe of the first 3 games

the bromance is what made the games for me. i mean obv the gameplay is incredible but they made me really care about the characters. these guys are introduced too suddenly to care about nearly as much. and im gonna guess the surprise is baird? im on act 4 ch 5 right now, think it's the last one

this is exactly how i feel. and i was about to say act 5 was relatively awesome but i thought there would be another act for revenge where all hell breaks loose or somethin but no. agh. i mean acts 3-5 were a lot of fun and it was nice seeing baird and cole again for 5 seconds. that ending was just super abrupt

looking forward to playing insane mode and horde though. and if multiplayer is anything like gears 3 im sure ill pour a ton of hours into it

i don't see any of the carmines online. unless you mean the standard COG outfits but they dont have the voices of carmine :/

starting to get a hang of multiplayer. it's actually a lot of fun and not all that different from gears 3. did they even add any new maps? i don't think ive seen one yet

It's really dumb unless they've updated it from launch

I recall regularly getting duplicate unlock cards. They should have just copied Halo 5's req system. It works great.

yea you can get duplicates and sell them for scrap. idk how it was at launch but im not a fan

also i think i saw someone running around as the new carmine (he wears like a snow hat?) but i dont see him anywhere in the card unlock place. is he only as DLC?
