ending isn't even that good and there isn't even any real twist to speak of.

definitely worth the experience... even more so in 60fps to make it feel less clunky.

I've played 1 (not 2) way back when, back when I was like 12 or something. It's a mix between action RPG and a town building game and I adored it.

i found it to be the contrary. The gameplay is excellent and actually comparable to Metro 2033 with more varied environments.

For me, the story wasn't groundbreaking and was pretty much move from point A to B. The characters themselves were more appealing and were the game's strong point

I didn't hate it but I don't see how people thought the gameplay was anything more than passable. The AI was pretty dumb and 1 hit kill enemies are just lazy game design.

Still a great game though, don't get me wrong.

What difficulty did you play at?

That is one rare game where I think the difficulty drastically changes how the game plays. I was lucky enough to have my first playthrough on hard and I've done many on crushing and grounded since. The limit on ammo, health and items really makes encounters feel a lot more tense when you're just scraping by.

I've seen people play on easier levels just running and gunning in a sort of pass fail way of playing where they die until they just happen to make it that one time. I can see how that can lead to a different opinion.

But overall, I'd say it's a lot better than serviceable. The gunplay is basic over the shoulder shoot with some chest high cover, but it was always tight enough and the weapons all had the right amount of kick to them with things like the bow feeling a lot more lighter as it should. The hand to hand stuff also felt great. The punches and slamming someone's head into a wall felt so satisfying and impactful. The stealth (especially on the harder levels) was a lot of fun though, especially when it all goes tits up and you've got to blast your way out of an area or just take everyone down one by one. The crafting mechanic was a huge plus for me with the limitations really changing how you play. I found pretty much every tool useful for combat or stealth.

The only real flaw I see in that game is the partner AI occasionally breaking immersion during the stealth sections. An understandable sacrifice since the alternative would have meant getting spotted for your partner's mistakes, but I do wish that could have been corrected.

I agree with ^ the difficulty can really change the dynamics of the game, the stress/tension you feel, how you go about approaching situations, etc.
I played it on normal the first time and grounded or whatever the original highest difficulty was on the PS3 version before they added in the higher one and it really changes the game a lot. On normal I felt untouchable, I could go in rooms and not even really be all that stealthy. I could accidentally blow my cover up front and still just go around beating everyone to death, using bricks/bottles, melee weapons, and shooting them no problem. But on grounded, holy shit you get legitimately scared when you approach a group of people because you only have a a handful of bullets and a few hits will kill you. Especially when you're playing as Ellie later in the game and you have even less health and resources.
