and now the funny thing is that the top selling games are online-only or predominantly played online (Destiny, NBA Live, CoD, GTAV, etc), gamestop is slowly going out of business because people aren't even buying physical games anymore (so no sharing), one of the top uses of consoles is for streaming services, and voice interfaces are the biggest fad in tech today (Siri, Ok Google, Bixby, etc).

gamers acted like babies and the end result is that we have two consoles that are basically gameboxes. there were definitely some problems with the OG Xbox One but at least it had some kind of a vision. idk about you guys but I spend more time watching Netflix and TV and shit these days than actually gaming

Well considering most cable companies have now adopted the majority of the features used by Xb1 and the Kinect, and that growth rate of online purchases and digital media continues to skyrocket, Id say they were on the right track imo

Uhh, lol, no.

That was a huge PR blunder that they have learned from. They aren't a stupid company. If something big fucks up, they change it for good. Like how the RRoD was fixed with the Slim 360, and when they designed the One, they made 50-fucking-percent of its surface area ventilation, lol. I think it's safe to say MS will be the last to try that DRM stuff again.

What's wrong about what I said?

The backlash against the Xbox One was downright silly at points, like when there were people freaking out that people living on nuclear submarines would not be able to play the latest Xbox One games:

https://venturebeat.com/2013/06/13/microsofts-mattrick-doesnt-know-about-living-on-a-submarine-so-we-asked-someone-who-does/

And now when you look at it, a lot of the ideas behind the original Xbox One were pretty much exactly where gaming is headed.

And because of the outrage, gamers demanded that their consoles just be living room boxes that play games, and now here we are, with two nearly identical home consoles that do pretty much nothing different than the PS3/Xbox 360 - multimedia was going to be something to set the two systems apart.

All that E3 2013 whining did was just halt console growth for 4 years

It does matter. It proves that they don't give a shit about gamers and would put all these anti-consumer features into their system if they were allowed to. The Xbone shouldn't have been allowed to sell a single console, Microsoft should have had to rebrand and start over. Yet some idiots ended up still buying the console, proving that humans are fucking idiots

the 24 hour check thing was really dumb, i agree, and I'm glad it was reverted, but then when you look at the numbers there are 48 million Xbox Live users and 26 million Xbox One sales, so I don't think it's a crazy assumption to make that the vast majority of people playing on Xbox have some sort of internet connection.

It can't be a sizable population of gamers who have no internet access yet are going to rush to buy the latest $500 console, and now in retrospect the vast majority of the top selling games are multiplayer only like Overwatch, Destiny, The Division, Rainbow Six Siege, etc or mostly played online like CoD or Battlefield 1

No. They wanted consoles to make a ping to the internet at least once every 24 hours. They also said if you didn't have access to the internet you could use your phone as a tether to make that ping.

what was supposed to happen if you didn't ping? honestly asking.

this came out during a time where I made a ton of weekend long trips. I remember that being a no no for me at the time, but I don't remember what was supposed to happen if you didn't get it online.

Not true at all. There's a way to share your digital games with one other person on a different XB1 console. They can download/play all of your digital games and DLC, and you can download/play all of their digital games and DLC, without needing to have the original owner signed in.

Probably wouldn't be able to play the game because it wouldn't be able to check your license. The phone thing was supposed to negate the fact that people take their consoles away to places they might not have an internet connection. So I guess if by some slim chance nobody had a phone or service in the deep woods you wouldn't be able to play.

"learning" and being "stupid" have literally 0% to do with anything.
they're a business and they're gonna take the path of most profit 100% of the time.

they rushed the original 360 with shitty parts because they wanted people to buy into their console/games/online subscription before the launch from the competition and then take the fallout afterwards when people were already invested.

pretty obvious they couldn't have done the same with xbone or they would have dug themselves into a deeper(and deserved) shit hole than they were already in.
it's pretty much guaranteed that every original feature(for good or worse) had gotten the go ahead to be implemented on account of the fact that you know... they announced it and planned to go ahead with it were it not for the negative press.

that's what the arrogance of success leads to.
just ask sony how they practically got everybody to embrace their online play subscription for ps4.

I thought the original plan also allowed you to share your digital games with a bunch of friends. I could be wrong about that.

Basically, each gamertag and its purchases are tied to a "home console", and you can change your home console up to 3 times per calendar year. The different ways you can share digital games with other accounts besides your own are as follows:

- On the home console of the account who owns a digital game, you can play that game using any account on that console without the account who bought the game needing to be signed in. So your friend can sign in with his account on your Xbox and play the game.
- On a different console, you can play a digital game on any account if you download the account who owns the game and that account is also signed in at the same time. So you can log into your friend's Xbox, download the game, then your friend can sign in with their account and play the game.
- If you and one friend on another console both set each other's consoles as your account's home console (AKA setting up a gameshare), you'll both be able to freely download and play all of each other's digital games as well as your own, as long as one of the accounts involved in the gameshare is logged in. To play one of those digital games with any account besides the two that are gamesharing, you'd have to log in with one of those two.

I gameshare with one of my friends, so he gets the Call of Duty games from me while I get Rocket League and Minecraft from him.
