No, because my parents died before video games existed! However I did take away my son's Nintendo NES in 1986, when he was 14, because he got in trouble with the law. His mother and I were divorced, but she demanded I punish him in some way. Anyhow, I plugged in the thing, and got hooked on Metroid. Had to buy my own NES. It wasn't my first video game (I'd played an Atari 2600 and started on Pong when I was 23 in 1975), but it started a long line of game playing on consoles and PC. At 65, I will stop when you pry that controller from my cold dead hands!

Another but similar situation for me. Whilst I was there at the start of the video gaming era: pong, space invaders, pacman I only ever played those, and not very often, when on holiday in local arcades,

I didn't get a home console until I was over 30 so if my parents had tried to take away my video games/console I would have been both surprised and angry.

However my mother didn't (and still doesn't) like video games, mostly for ignorant, inexplicable and undoubtedly irrational reasons. So when staying with her for Xmas week, the new year or at other times I eventually got so bored of her sniping at me for "wasting my time time with those awful games" I stopped taking a games console down with me.

So even at my age parents can still, by undisguised disapproval, effectively take video games away from you. :)

Same here but I never had to take away my kid's consoles or games. They just didn't get in trouble that much.

I got grounded from playing when I was younger. But never physically taken away.

When I got busted stealing when I was 14 my mom took all my games. Not the systems. Just the games.

Wasn't a huge loss to me though.

That's pretty much ineffective nowadays with digital games lol

Yeah, tomorrow's poll should be, "Have you ever taken away your children's game?"

I've been restricted from playing once that I remember. It was a long time ago, so I don't remember why. I've now restricted my son from playing multiple times. It's my go to when he gets in trouble in school that day.

My dad hid my NES games when my grades got a whee bit too low. Of course I didn't like it at the time but it was a fair punishment in my opinion.

My mom would hide my sega genesis games when I was being a little bastard. Once she hid my Diablo2 cd because I was playing too much.

I remember being told I couldn't play Diablo 2 until I got my grades back up. Truthfully though my grades did slip because of that game lol.

Lol, I recall my father once "taking away" my Dreamcast by hiding the AC adapter... without telling me. When I went to play it, I plugged it as usual without immediately noticing it was missing (I felt something was amiss, but didn't think much of it). When I turned it on, it fucking exploded. Well, not literally, but one of its internal components got fried and smoke came out in spades. After that, it would always turn off after a few seconds...

Good thing he later took it to an electrician and had it repaired.

Taking away video games wasn't really a thing for me because my time limit was 1 hour per day anyway. Instead I would have to do lines or get spanked ( whatever my parents chose.)
