Was talking with someone at work about him the other day and he convinced me to watch Full Metal Jacket. I hadn't seen it since I was like 7, and obviously it didn't make much sense then but I really enjoyed it last night.

I was wondering what some of his other "must watch" movies are. Of course 2001: A Space Oddessy is a classic and so is A Clockwork Orange, but I really didn't like The Shining when I tried to watch it. Waaaaay too slow (felt the same way about the book, btw. One of the few Stephen King books I quit halfway thru because it was boring me to death). Anyway, probs gonna look at watching some more of his movies soon, so reccs?

2001
Spartacus
The Shining
Full Metal Jacket
Eyes Wide
A Clockwork Orange
The Killing
Paths of Glory
Dr. Strangelove (I should really re-watch this...)

First 5 are all in my top 100.

I've only seen: 2001, A Clockwork Orange, Eyes Wide Shut, Full Metal Jacket, and The Shining.

the only one that I disliked was The Shining, but idk how I felt about EWS; pretty ambivalent on it, I guess.

I really want to read Lolita before I try to watch it, but I'm terrified to buy a copy of it online. I mean, I'm probably already on half a dozen watch lists already

I like The Shining for the most part, but I can see why Stephen King doesn't like what Kubrick did with it.

It's fucking up, but it's an amazing book. The protagonist is one of the most repulsive in all of fiction, but damn he's interesting and the prose is top notch.

Kubrick is my favorite thing.

In order :
Dr. Strangelove (All time favorite movie)
Barry Lyndon
Full Metal Jacket
Lolita
A Clockwork Orange
Eyes Wide Shut
Spartacus
2001
The Shining
Pre-1960 stuff, although to be fair I haven't seen them in a long time and have only seen them once, compared to the dozens of times I've watched the others.

I really suggest you rewatch Paths of Glory. That movie made the modern day war movie. Its too damn good.
