The other day my boss took out all his frustration on me over a little problem at weekly staff meeting. He did this several weeks ago. He doesn't tell me in person what the issue is, but waits until he has an audience. He's also a perfectionist and expects miracles when we are understaffed. He makes fun of old employees who he fired and said he wouldn't hure someone solely based on their name.

Beside that, the job is alright. M-F 9-5 with holidays plus 2 weeks off for Christmas, 1 for Thankgiving, and 1 personal week. I just got health insurance too. All that means nothing if it's a toxic environment though. I was seriously considering quitting on the spot.

Record everything for like a month first. Both for when he inevitably tries to block you from unemployment and also in case you need to lawyer up.

Yeah the only reason I didn't quit is because I have my personal vacation coming up that's paid. I'm on salary. Also, he will be gone for 3 or so weeks starting monday. So I will bide my time. Recording him is a very good idea.

>Half my department is sick or out on family emergencies for a week
>Boss expects me to complete 76 hours of work in a 40 hour week
>Doesn't want to pay overtime
>But you're not paying half your department you hideous sack of shit

How do these people even run businesses without failing

Does he treat others like that as well? If others feel the same you could have a pretty strong case against him.

^ yeah kind of same here. At the staff meeting the secretary suggested that I come in early or stay later. I kept my wits and said I'm a busy person. I have a part time job and volunteer on weekends. My boss scoffed at that and asked my coworker if he had a busy life. I almost blew up with anger. I should have recorded all that.

Shit on his desk and mash all his importsnt documents in it

Mostly you're just bitching and moaning and sticking your neck out where it shouldnt be. The only legit gripe you have is the humiliation/bullying in front of colleagues. Him making fun of past employees? Not your concern. Him not hiring someone for ANY REASON? Not your concern.

Might want to check if you live in a one-party state before doing this. If you do this in a two-party state, you will have royally screwed up.

The last coworker who got fired was a hard worker. The boss would take his frustation out on him and blame things on him. He even justified his actions by saying his IQ was 150 and he would never make a mistake like the one he blamed us for. Next day he admitted it was his mistake. So he knows he's an asshole. Anyways, when the busy season was over my boss fired him. Basically used him. I feel the same is happening to me.

Get another job laid out for you. Lay down the notice to him once you do. You'd be surprised at how desperate some of those bosses can get.

God, this shit makes me glad to be union. I'd quit on the spot and make them give me a clean layoff.

This might work for a while but a boss like that will likely hold a grudge over that and he'll make it known once he feels comfortable again.

I would just find a new job and say fuck a 2 weeks notice. Just stop showing up one day

Also pack up all your important documents/contacts/and work so no one else can do your job. Just make sure you don't destroy/steal company property. In addition, check if you state is an "at will" state so you can quit on the spot instead of giving advance notice.

If things work out, you can just disappear and leave behind a job that can't be done without you, screwing the entire company.

That's a dick move on your part (not to your boss but to your coworkers there) if you leave without notice.

It's not your coworker's responsibility to do your job. Above all else, I would avoid telling them you want to quit but if you do, tell them to demand more money if they need to pick up your slack or else they should quit on the spot as well.

I'd start looking for another job, nothing is more stressful than a bad work environment with a difficult boss. Not worth it in the long run unless you can swallow your pride and take it.

Yea I've been pretty vital in the last few months intergrating new operations and helping out the business by saving money with little ideas. My ideas go unnoticed and boss scoffs at any I have at meetings. I even created some music in my off time to help better market some product. My expertise is music and my role is totally nothing to do with music. I regret doing that now. If I leave without a notice they will be screwed for awhile as it's about to get busy.

Oh yeah it's family ran. The wife of the boss heads up a department. It's through a bigger organization, but this particular place is very close knit. So there is nobody I can tell my woes to. No HR department or anything. The hierarchy leads to him even though the organization is built on having an open mind. His personality totally conflicts with the environment.
