just watched the 2015 mini series(awesome murder mystery but this should be a given for fans) but never realized it started out with stuff like the title being "Ten Little N-words" and the island they're on being named N-word Island.

She didn't come up with that. Ten little (...) is an actual English rhyme or something and she just used it for her story IIRC.

From what I remember, apparently the word became taboo in England later than it did in the US
