This hits home very close to me considering I've got colon cancer myself. I'm hoping to make it many more years, as I'm only 28 myself. Praying for you and your uncle.

This exact same thing happened to my uncle about a month ago....his liver also ended up failing, constantly underwent dialysis. He was given a similar prognosis, ended up living about a week or so after that, thankfully in minimal pain.

Stay strong, for his sake as well as yours.

yeah, it was terminal for him for about a year now...he's given all the fight he can, but now I think he's accepted his fate

i've spent a lot of time with him in the past year, but it could have been more....my advice for my fellow posters here

get off the computer for a hour or two....go for a coffee at grandmas....call up a friend....you can refresh CE, twitter and play games for hours when you get back

is it terminal? have you been fighting it?

Indeed, it's stage iv. Just started fighting it less than a month ago. I've been told I've got a lot of good factors going for me, so that gives me some hope.

Still, chemo is an absolute beast. The second round I barely had the energy to get inside the cancer center for them to remove the pump from my portable cath. Every time I go outside I tire out super quick. Just this morning I had to deliver some papers out of town and it nearly bowled me over not three days removed from the second round of chemo.

It's hard to think when on chemo too, since there's so many factors in play. For one, you lose your appetite which makes it harder to eat every day and keep calories to keep your strength up but then you're also feeling too nauseous from the chemo to attempt to eat anything in fear of getting sick.

This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life. I mean, I'm basically fighting to live right now.

Well, it's been hard considering I have to move by the end of the month as the house is being sold. I'm either going to one of two towns, or both, not staying in the current county. It has been hard, social security is a joke considering the max you're allowed from the federal government is a pretty paltry sum of $735 which is just barely enough to cover rent alone in a larger city in the Southeast.

Still, I had the cancer for a year and was working during that time before I was properly diagnosed back in February. I went in December for pain related to the cancer (I know this, now, just thought it was weird severe abdominal pain at the time) and they misdiagnosed me with collitis. I'm one of the cases that's causing doctors to get younger and younger people screened for cancer because colon cancer, in particular, is hitting a lot of people much younger than normal statistics these days. So, hopefully in the future people will start getting screened around the time they're like 20, because man I've seen some cases where kids as early as that have stage iv terminal colon cancer and it's devastating.

On a related note, my brother's best friend died due to brain cancer on Sunday. He just gave up, stopped doing chemo, and was doing spice all day. We all have crosses to bear, I just hope I can keep going for another 10 years or more.

it sounds selfish, but my uncle has accepted his death..i wish he would keep fighting, but we all know...reality is setting in

its tough to see him not give up, but relegate the fate of the situation

You have my best wishes. This isn't the sort of thing I would wish on an enemy. Take care out there, and as other posters have said, make time for family today, not tomorrow.

I've basically stopped really caring about anything, the sadness i felt there, it just brought back the sadness I had when my mom died of kidney failure back in 2005, I'm tired of feeling powerless and sad as someone I cared about dies right in front of me, the worst thing, she didn't even know who she was or where she was that point and her hands were just cold, it was like my grandma died twice. So, rather than face this feeling again when someone else dies, I've decided to just kill my heart, live each day with indifference and little care, no more tears that way, can't cry if I don't care, can't regret if I feel nothing. Something broke inside me that day and I know I'll never get it back, it's why when the day comes I can't have my medication anymore I just won't care, and to prevent my aunt and brothers from forcing me to take the little medication I have left I'm just going to leave, pick a direction and start walking if I got robbed and killed by a thug, so be it, if I get run over by a driver, so be it. Nothing matters, nothing should matter and in the end nothing ever will matter.

Lost my Aunt to it a couple of years ago. Was only 51 at the time. Was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer, had that removed and had radiotherapy.

She was telling my grandparents stuff that we didn't find out about for a good while. She was also holding back what problems she was having from them as well.

Found out had spread to her lungs, she went to hospital multiple times from collapsing.

We took her on holiday with us like 3 months before she passed away, wanted to make sure she had a great time, but she was bound to her wheelchair for a lot of the time. Her legs would swell up and cause her pain, so she couldn't walk far.

When she went to hospital last, it had spread to her brain and was gone within a matter of days.

My Dad pretty much closed himself off during this whole time. Would just stay in his room on the night and we could hear him crying sometimes. Wouldn't like to imagine losing my brother or sister, I'm super close to both of them. I feel like sick thinking about it now.

I wish you best of luck with coping in this situation. It's not something I would wish on anybody at all.
