Which way do you prefer them to work?

Way to explain them being reanimated and having all these abilities.

I don't think I've even heard of science-based vampires.

I mean, sort of? Consuming blood was neither necessary for his survival nor really due to any sort of real scientific basis, so he was really just vampire-like.

Hell, even his superpowers only got a scientific explanation in MGS4, and past the regeneration even that's pretty vague.

They're like vampire/zombie hybrids. The original novel calls them vampires though.

Stephenie Meyer thinks she wrote science-based vampires. Obviously she's wrong, and they have even less to do with realistic biology than the average Umbrella product.

The Strain does this. Vampirism is caused by bloodborne parasites, and there's detailed description of the internal anatomical changes they cause. They're very zombie-esque vampires.

magic based vampires

zombies I don't care for. magic I guess. they tend to be disposable enemies who can be mowed down here. when you put zombies into a science based setting they tend to overwhelm the entire narrative which is a shame. there's many interesting things you can do with science fiction, and I don't find zombie premise stories to be among those interesting things.
