I think the biggest thing I've learned in my time here is that expressing your personal opinions is a mistake, and people will be knocking over each other to tell you how and why you are wrong on every level.

Yeah, but if you really have a strong belief on your opinions you should keep your stance. Many opinions in history were met with hostility until they eventually had to be accepted and became the norm. If something is what you feel is a correct opinion, never hesitate to insist on it, not once, not ten times, not a thousand times, but as many as is needed, because if it is the correct opinion it will never cease to be correct.
