History of teams with multiple 1st rounders in a single draft

Season 2

Bears - Selected MLB Abdul Hodge (1st overall) and CB Justin Wyatt (17th overall)

- Bears originally owned the #1 overall pick while they acquired the 17th overall pick from the Browns in exchange for WR Terrell Owens.

- Slated to be a starter, Hodge languished on the bench after the Bears signed MLB Dan Morgan in free agency. He eventually left and converted to DE before joining the Redskins. He is Stan's favorite player.

- Wyatt never elevated to anything beyond slot corner and left after his rookie deal ran out. He has been a free agent since.


Panthers - Selected CB Will Blackmon (4th overall) and WR Derek Hagan (9th overall)

- Panthers originally owned the #3 overall pick while they acquired the #9th pick in a trade with the Seahawks after they acquired the #12 pick in RFA by letting DE Robert Mathis sign with the Colts.

- Blackmon was a solid, if unspectacular, #2 CB for many years until he was traded to the Titans.

- Hagan was in the doghouse due to high drops and inconsistent performance before settling in as a long-term starter for the Panthers. He hasn't produced how one would presumably like as a WR, but he has twice made the Pro Bowl as a returner.

Season 3

49ers - Selected FS Will Herring (17th overall) and SS Bernard Pollard (18th overall)

- 49ers originally owned the 18th pick while they received the 17th pick when they let RFA DT Darnell Dockett sign with the Colts

- Herring has started 78 out of of a possible 80 games in his five seasons. He's a model of consistency with 20-something tackles, 1+ INT, and 2+ FFs/FRs in all but one of his five seasons. Those are decent numbers for a FS by the way.

- Pollard, seeing that the dismantling of the Patriots had already happened, he was sent to the NFC where he has started all 80 games. His backup, SS Jessie Daniels taken in the 4th round that draft, outperformed him during his tenure and left for a starting gig in Houston (now Columbus).


Raiders - Selected DE Jay Moore (19th overall) and QB Brian Brohm (24th overall)

- Raiders originally owned the 19th pick while they received the 24th pick from the Cowboys in a trade that sent QB Daunte Culpepper to Dallas and QB Rex Grossman to Oakland.

- Moore started 31 games his first two seasons, but had just a combined 47 tackles, 6 sacks, 1 FF, and 1 FR. While he has remained in Oakland, he hasn't started since and has added a lone sack.

- Brohm barely played his first four seasons before landing the starting job in Season 6 after Grossman signed with the Steelers. He barely completed 50% of his passes and had a 12-17 TD-INT ratio before the Raiders acquired QB Daunte Culpepper from the Panthers. He was just traded to the Seahawks on draft day.


Dolphins - Selected CB Antonio Cromartie (22nd overall) and QB Sam Keller (26th overall)

- Dolphins originally owned the 26th pick and acquired the 22nd pick from the Titans for a package of 2nd-4th round picks.

- Cromartie has started only five games in his career, but he was a slot corner from Day 1 and made the Pro Bowl after his second year.

- Keller started behind Trent Dilfer and Kerry Collins his first two seasons before breaking out and making the Pro Bowl the following two seasons. He was 7-1 in eight regular/postseason starts last season.


Bills - Selected QB Paul Thompson (10th overall) and HB Courtney Lewis (28th overall)

- Bills originally owned the 10th overall pick and received the 28th overall pick from the Bucs as part of a trade that sent QB Tom Brady to the Buccaneers.

- Thompson was an underrated starter for the Bills. He had a low completion percentage (roughly 55% as a Bill), but he had a career 38-31 TD-INT ratio. The one season he was lost during the preseason was the Bills best year as former B8NFLL joke Ryan Fitzpatrick led them to an 8-8 record. He was released last season and signed with the Broncos where he put up respectable numbers in 11 starts.

- Lewis was a high-quality backup to Clinton Portis, accumulating over 1800 yards and 12 TDs across four seasons. A backup was all he was though. After his rookie contract ran out, he decided to look for a starting job, only to have to settle for one mid-season with the Panthers once injuries hit.

Bills - Selected TE Greg Olsen (7th overall) and MLB Brandon Siler (28th overall)

- Bills originally owned the 7th overall pick and acquired the 28th from the Bucs as part of a trade that sent Tom Brady to the Buccaneers.

- TEs never put up huge stats like their real life counterparts, and Olsen seemed to do fine all things considered. He was traded to the Packers this offseason.

- Siler barely started as Ronald McKinnon was a durable force in the middle. He was purged last season before landing with the Texans (now Pioneers) as the #2 MLB in their 3-4

Dolphins - Selected DE Calais Campbell (24th overall) and OLB DeAndre Levy (26th overall)

- Dolphins originally owned the 26th pick and acquired the 24th pick from the Jaguars for a package of 2nd-4th round picks.

- Campbell has produced a pair of 8-sack seasons and made the Pro Bowl.

- Levy has one start in two seasons as the top backup at both OLB positions and has produced what would you expect from a backup OLB.

Broncos - Selected OT Andre Smith (12th overall) and WR Mike Wallace (24th overall)

- Broncos originally owned the 24th pick and acquired the 12th pick when they let RFA SS Lewis Baker sign with the Bills

- Smith has played six games (no starts) and has 14 blocks to no sacks allowed.

- Wallace had put up a line that you would expect from a #4 WR (23 receptions for 283 yards, 2 TDs)


Browns - Selected QB Sam Bradford (18th overall) and OT Ryan Clady (25th overall)

- Browns originally owned the 25th pick and acquired the 18th pick from the Steelers in a trade that sent DE Ryan Nece to the Steelers.

- Bradford lost most of the season due to injury, but he had a 65% completion percentage and nearly 700 yards through the air.

- Clady started all 16 games and finished with a 36-4 block-sack ratio.

- Wildcats originally owned the 1st pick and acquired the 30th pick from the Dolphins who previously acquired that pick from the Ravens.

- Dolphins originally owned the 31st overall pick but traded it to acquire the 19th pick from the Patriots. They acquired the 3rd overall pick from the Seahawks as compensation for RFA DT Matt Kroul signing with them. They acquired the 10th overall pick in a trade with the Giants after acquiring the 18th overall pick from the Pumpkins in as compensation for RFA G Seth Olsen signing with them.


Steelers - Selected OT Anthony Costanzo (20th overall), DT Gerald McCoy (24th overall), and QB Robert Griffin (31st overall)

Signing Draft Picks

Quite a few teams have done it already, but now's the time to get those draftees' signatures and have them suit up for your squad. It is essentially just like signing your own free agents, but you don't have to worry about holdouts/franchise tags, and you typically have far fewer players to sign.

There are a few things you need to keep in mind. One, you will not know the overall ratings until they are signed. That is an in-game mechanic and not something by my design. Two, the desired deals for each player, in terms of length, is based on where they were taken. It is as follows:

Top 5 - Six years
6-10 - Five years
11-32 - Four years
2nd-4th rounds - Three years (will be eligible for RFA)
5th-7th rounds - One year

Once again, you do not have to offer them their exact deals and can change their length, but I advise you to sign them to the length that they ask for because if you change the length, they might ask for considerably more money.

1. You CAN go over your cap space. It isn't until we sim the preseason (still weeks away) that you are required to have positive or zero cap space.

2. You CANNOT exceed your roster limit under any circumstances. However many empty cells you have under your team in the roster sheet is the amount of open spaces that you have.
