Placebos are typically used in studies and drug trials on volunteers who are aware that they may be getting it. They generally aren't something that your friendly local pharmaceutical peddler gives out from their drug shop.

The only time I've ever given anyone a placebo is a diabetic who needs some sort of sugar pill in case they become hypoglycemic, but all that stuff is OTC and can be picked up in Walmart. so there isn't much of that here.

I cannot say anything definitively since we have yet to obtain strong meta analysis that detail their true effect. I would like for more studies to be done so we can gather strong scientific data to say for sure.

With that said, they appear to be VERY promising. As they appear effective with far less side effects compared to opioids. But, again, I want studies. We as a country need to get over this silly fear of medical marijuana and get it into more clinical trials.

What do you guys even do all day? It's like whenever I go to the pharmacy, the employees are just filling bottles with pills. I mean, do you really need to go to school for that long to be able to fill some pills into a bottle and give it to someone? Please describe what it is you actually do because I've never had a clear understanding of what pharmacists do all day. Thanks.

I am not a pharmacist, but what i understand they need knowledge of the drugs that they are giving out, thats why they need schooling

We can detect drug interactions, determine appropriateness of prescribed therapies, suggest alternatives to the doctor, and we have to do the final check of prescriptions before they can go out the door. Oh, and we have the knowledge to teach patients about their medications.

I don't really feel like you answered my question because you kinda just confirmed it; it doesn't really sound like you do much, no offense. I mean really though, do they need all those people just filling pill bottles all day? Do they really need 3 or 4 people to say "ya you shouldn't be chugging liquor when you take this Xanax" or something like that? Shouldn't the doctor prescribing the medication be able to see your medical information and be like "ok so you're gonna alternate between taking these two things because if you take them at the same time you will throw up blood"? It just doesn't seem like your job is really needed, aside from having someone accountable for filling potentially abusable drugs. I'm trying to understand here though.

Meh, I guess I can discuss it. Keep in mind I'm an entry level pharmacist. My wage at this place is $54/hour. Also, to touch on advancement which I missed, there are plenty of options. I could continue down the retail path and become a manager or even an owner. I could go down other areas such as hospital and nuclear pharmacy, which could lead to positions like clinical coordinator, director, etc.

Depends on the pharmacy. We always have something we can be doing. A couple of major things include contacting prescribes on prescriptions that need renewals, and in the case of our pharmacy, we do ALL the medicines for the local nursing home, which is set up to do a 28 day rotation, so we're always at some point in that process, whether it be filling/packaging, checking, or billing their cards.

I did two years of undergrad, applied and got accepted into pharmacy school. Then I did three years of pharmacy school, and ended my last (fourth) year as an intern going to various points. Once I graduated, I took my licensing tests and now here I am. I'm 24 years old, and no work for an independent pharmacy.
