It helps people believe that you're arguing in good faith if you occasionally call people out that you generally agree with, or praise actions from people you generally disagree with.

For example, I was ecstatic that Trump stood up to China and made a step towards recognizing Taiwan's sovereignty. He later sadly walked it back entirely, but at the time liberals were giving him SO MUCH s*** for it, in my opinion just because it was him doing it.

I'll admit I gave him s*** for it from the jump, but it wasn't because I disagreed with the idea of a sovereign Taiwan, but because I honestly believe Trump didn't even know what he was doing.

And I think the walking back kind of proves that.

EDIT: Yeah I know this isn't the point of your post, but I'm just saying I won't give Trumo the benefit of the doubt on anything until he proves my beliefs about him wrong even once.

Trump's views of the Taiwan situation is exactly the same as his views on Israel & Palestine. He doesn't have a single clue about the actual topic and just goes to populism to make his choice. Hell the comparison works especially well when you add in the fact that China and Taiwan both hold a "One China" policy, they just disagree on who's China it is.. which basically goes hand in hand with how Trump non-nonchalantly praised the Israel/Palestine "one-state" path because "it's what everyone agrees on" despite the fact it means two completely different things and that's what the issue is.

I don't think anybody would deny that recognizing Taiwan is a good thing, it's only backed off officially for diplomatic reasons - while at the same time supporting Taiwan independently.

In regards to Israel and Palestine, at the press conference with friggin Netinyahu, Trump actually said something to the effect of "Two state, one state...I don't really care as long as everyone is happy" and it's like...dude that's literally the disagreement.

Creating a two state solution for China/Taiwan is a lot simpler. China doesn’t have much true power in Taiwan (though it has a lot of influence). Taiwan for the most part has given up taking over mainland China (for obvious reasons) with the main options being join China, become independent or continue this more autonomous Hong Kong-like relationship.

A two state solution for Israel/Palestine is a lot more complicated with a major cause being the building of settlements in land which was originally divided up for Palestine. The West Bank has been so fragmented by those settlements Israel would essentially have to give back some land for anything to make sense.

I'm of the opposite mindset: I don't think that being an entertainer means "keep your mouth shut and entertain me." We always push and celebrate activism and political thought when Hollywood does it (and Conservatives blow a gasket) but I'm just as glad Jon's putting his opinions out there. No matter how horrible I think they are.

Your job should not be a limiter on the ability to express political/social opinion.

Ah. Yeah I never got into any of that sort of thing, I'd rather play a game than watch someone else play it.

I'm the opposite. I have barely any patience whatsoever, so watching other people play eliminates any potential frustration from having to repeat anything. If I'm watching a video and the player dies a few times in the same spot, I start getting annoyed and jump forward a bit in the video, but nothing gets broken >_>

If it is a game I have played, I can well enjoy seeing someone else's reaction to stuff I reacted to. If it is a game I have not played and might want to play, I can watch a bit as an idea of what to expect. If it is a game I have not played and don't want to play, I still can reap the majority of benefits of having played it (some genres understandably work better than others here).

But none of that has much political bearing other than to maybe underscore how even with issues like 'watching people play video games' there are a range of potential opinions on the matter and one should always be careful of too casually dismissing them.

You think Ulti is bad, I know of an atheist who believes all Christians and Muslims are literally evil, that the vast majority of Christians worship Trump, that the vast majority of Muslims are pro-rape, and that we should be literally gearing up for war against Christians, and doesn't understand why people are resisting his message.

There's a chance he could be trolling but I doubt it - he's also been one of those internet users who doesn't think people should have a filter between their brain and their mouth (or in this case, hands)

These aren't the only things he's said.

And also, "he isn't good at saying what he means" is a pretty poor defense when he keeps defending what people "thought" he said.
