Chapter 8 now. One new lone hostess...boo. I guess I have to go it with Yuki, two golds, and 4-5 silvers. It didn't do me much good before. I hope a few levels do the trick.

Club Mars down. I used that to nab Ai, plus got good luck with the casting calls: 1 gold, 3 silvers. No more bronze girls unless I need them for desperation.

Is it worth doing all this circuit fighter stock car stuff? I've already raced the three top racers, and am at the point where I maxed out PC fighter's friendship and he ran away. So after finishing that, is there a reason to do anything else there?

Also, the timer stops during selection of hostesses. I just now notices the mood icon changes during the selection process. It sure makes things easier.

If you're trying to 100%, you'll have one more substory race in addition to any of the normal races you haven't beaten. And unfortunately it more or less requires some parts you can only get from Dream Machines.

Otherwise getting him as a friend is the most important part for real estate.

Right, real estate. I had a question about that. I have the real estate minigame unlocked, and everything I read says you go to PC Fighter when he has max friendship and if you talk to him he'll give you the property. Well I talked to him and uh he didnt give me the property.

Those properties don't affect the share for some reason. I forgot if they did, but I know they just add more money. I mean, I'm at 100% at the Electronics area, but I never cleared the gamer girl sidequest for her property.

The bowling alley for sure. I did the bowling girl's events, but couldn't finish the substory until the first billionaire went down.

It makes me so giddy to see a Yakuza thread with this many posts on B8. I know I'm way behind in typing up post-story thoughts on the game, but hopefully I'll find time to do that this weekend. Maybe. >_>

As far as I know you only need to beat the first billionaire (which doesn't take long or cost too much) to unlock the friendship real estate stores.

So the game doesn't explain this in the most intuitive way (you get one throwaway line about having problems establishing your initial property in the Media King territory), but the deal is that the Media King's territory is completely unattainable until you've defeated the first 4 Kings, same as everyone else's being unattainable until you defeat the Leisure King. So while the requirement for getting any of the "friendship" properties is to simply max out that friendship, you still have to have the applicable territory available in the first place. Therefore you couldn't get the bowling arena or arcade before defeating the Leisure King, either.

In the Business section of the pause menu, you can see the territory and names for any available properties (sadly not each specific property location until you actually purchase them). I'm not sure you can even highlight the Media King territory right now. (Which is also confusing when you get to Majima's version where every territory can be highlighted but it still roadblocks you in the exact same way.)

They do it that way so they can write the dialogue such that they can actually talk about you beating all the other Kings when you get to the Media King. You'll notice occasionally with the middle 3 where they'll only ever bring up the fact you've beaten the Leisure King when they get specific enough to name names, even though no one without abusing Mr. Shakedown wouldn't go Electronics -> Pleasure -> Gambling.

If you can hack it, it's probably actually faster to do the Mr. Shakedown method at this point. (Sadly it doesn't work for Majima which would be really nice for Equipment Searches in the early game, but at least his sidequests themselves don't have the same huge money barrier.)

I've barely touched the weapon search stuff in Majima's chapters yet. I might not have enough skills to handle Shakedown either. Real estate and cabaret have taken all my money. At most I've done maybe tier 2-3 in most styles.

Once you've actually gotten through Real Estate completely, you'll have access to a counter move that's R1 + O and is way easier than the one to pull off than the move in that video (at least against Mr. Shakedown). If he's in his attack animation at all it will work, even with the charges if you're ballsy enough to counter those (but not while he's pumping up for a charge, so be careful for that).

That said, Cabaret shouldn't really be eating through all that much of your money at all. It doesn't earn nearly as well as Real Estate once all is said and done which is why Majima's grids are cheaper, but besides accessories and partnerships, both of which are negligible compared to what you have to sink into Real Estate, it's basically pure profit.

Yeah now that you mention it, I'm not sure how many other folks on this board played the earlier games, haha. Btw after finishing that quest with Majima try looking around Senryo Avenue with Kiryu for another really fun reference-packed substory. It'll be a couple of women you overhear talking about someone.

I always feel sad when I finishing giving the hostesses a makeover because it means I have to stop listening to the music. >_>

I wasn't familiar enough to recognize the name (I only know the cliff notes of 1-3 and little to nothing past 4), but the way they presented it made it plainly obvious that was an important guy in one of the other games.

Isobe is definitely the best non-Platinum hostess by far. The Obatarian is also strangely good, because why not.

Been playing through Yakuza 3.

I heard the beginning was painfully slow dealing with all the orphan kids but I enjoyed it. Also, I do not miss the chasing minigame.

The "Unknown" girl might be interesting, if she levels up. I found Dolly to taper off after Etsuko got so damn good at talking skill, plus not bad at partying. I think I'm not lacking for good options though. It's just I got all the other Golds late, and they need leveling.

Unknown is better than most but still not as good. Dolly is actually a really good "bunter" at high levels in that she can generally be okay to good with everyone (except for guests requesting a specific hostess) while you wait for someone better to become available, but keeping her levels up is a pain to do naturally.

But there is a trick. It doesn't matter how much a guest hates a girl, the R1 Fever Mode will put them into the same super happy state regardless (as long as it triggers, for Lv1-2 it does 2 or 4 tables at random out of the ones not already in fever mode including extended sessions but with a timer currently elapsing). You can get a level 1 hostess caught up in a few sessions with this.

Yes. I was just using a B-Team squad (Underleveled Golds/Hugh Silvers) to prep the A-Team for Mercury. Fever mode saved me from getting in trouble at all. Erranda got lucky and even snagged a positive out of a Mega-Rich.

Yuki/Ai/Saki/Etsuko/Dolly are all 25-35. That should be enough for Mercury.

Club Moon and Cabaret Minigame DOWN! I can finally focus on finishing this. All the proceeds were saved up and used for nearly maxing out the 4th style (all but two nodes of the default board). I probably won't get Limit Breaker, but I doubt I will need it.

I think it may be glitched anyways, at least partially.

You'll notice that on that grid (and the same one for Kiryu), it actually indicates that it's Lv 1. When you fill up the whole thing, it levels up and clears the board, allowing you to fill it in again. I leveled it up like 5 times all at once for Majima, and the heat gain for his fourth style is still pitifully low. Not sure about basic attack power, either but that's harder to track since the enemies get stronger. Heat power seems insanely high, though, and I can tell that at least at low levels Health up definitely has an effect.
