Oh wow I figured out why I've been getting the error. It was trying to apply my coupon for Senran Kagura but it can't stack discounts. I misread the description thinking you could stack them, so I guess it kept giving me an error. It kinda sucks because the coupon expires the same day as the sale and offers a 50% discount, but I can't use it at all now. My only chance was before the sale started.

On the bright side, I ended up getting Himawari so maybe I'll get around to that sometime within the next year or so <_<

I only played the first grisaia and I can't really say it showed through super strongly there (though you could still sort of tell) but I think it's more pronounced in the 2nd and 3rd parts of the trilogy. The recent spinoff series (grisaia: phantom trigger) will probably also have it considering the name and the promo art

if you really want detailed stuff though check out innocent bullet - the false world-. I didn't get very far in it since my jp was not good enough to read all this splurging about a topic I wasn't very interested in so I can't say whether it's actually good unfortunately. But considering I dropped it because it had too much gun talk and it has a glossary with descriptions and 3D models (iirc, might just be 2D pics) I don't think I can say it's lacking on that front

The way Yuuji talks about guns makes me feel like the writer was definitely an enthusiast. I think it showed most in Makina's route in the first game. Asako is like that too, I'm guessing.

I noticed some games like MGS5 and I think Uncharted 4 using fake guns instead of real ones, and the only reason I can think of is either they have to pay to use the real ones/brands or they don't want to "glorify" guns or something. That or they didn't want to bother looking up the real guns.

It always took me out of it a little if I had an AK-47 that's obviously supposed to be an AK-47 but is slightly different and called like an KA-74 or something.

I think it's mostly just licensing issues and the developer/publisher's willingness to pay fees to use the name. Like, every game with actual names has credits that go "Used with the permission of Colt" or whatever. Battlefield and CoD have the budget and fanbase to justify it, or they might even get paid by the gun manufacturers as a form of advertising.

They are trademarked so I'd assume they do charge to use their name. Although I don't know why devs change the names of guns because there are so many variants with the same name anyways and I don't really see lawsuits.

It seems this article goes into it a little more. I actually skimmed a lot of it because it's a bit of a long read, but gun manufacturers sometimes also put additional restrictions in how the guns are used in the game. For example, the gun can't be used by the "bad guys" in the game, particularly ones shown to be enemies of the United States or Americans.

Codemasters kind of got around it by just not using the manufacturer name.

Some game makers have found ways to include real-life guns in their games while avoiding licensing costs. One ex-Codemasters employee, who asked to remain anonymous, described his experience of working on Operation Flashpoint, a franchise featuring the US Marines. "We didn't license weapons in the Flashpoint series," he says. "We covered ourselves from a legal angle [by not using any] names or manufacturers. The general rule is that you can use the model delineation but you can't use its proper name manufacturer name without prior permission.

"For example, we used 'M4A1 Carbine' which is the weapon's military code. Carbine means it's a shorter version for use in Close Quarters Battle. I forget if we refer to the weapons by name in the script but we were being so careful that we checked, double-checked and in many cases triple-checked with legal that we could use the weapon model numbers."
