Great game, great cast, solid multiplayer. This game should have sold like hotcakes and you should all be ashamed for not owning it.

I'm into chapter five, I think. It's a really enjoyable game. The shooting mechanic is great; far superior to Uncharted, Mass Effect, Space Marines and other TPS games I've played, while not quite as tight as Gears from my limited experience. The boss battles are another highlight. They're thoughtful, engaging, multi-part battles that you don't see too often in games like this.

I'm a bit disappointed by the squad mechanics and lack of dynamic gameplay, however. While the characters are fine, gaining trust doesn't seem to have much of an effect on how the story or battles develop. Sure, there's that one scene with Faye, and probably multiple endings, but answering questions incorrectly or shooting my squadmates (which happens often, because their AI is terrible) doesn't have any consequences. I don't care that they won't respond to my tactics because the tactics are useless.

I have a complaint about how the central theme isn't pushed far enough - after an excellent scene in an underground Casino, it's largely forgotten - but I'll wait to see how the final few hours go before passing judgment. It's just a bit frustrating. The game has a lot of promise, and does many things well, but leaves many of those promising ideas undeveloped. It's something I'd like to see improved upon in a sequel, but that's never going to happen.

Did they resolve the lingering doubts you were harboring?

Glad that you enjoyed it! Very fun game--the characters and gameplay are great. It could have used some improvements, but I agree that the mechanics are better than basically any other third-person shooter.

How'd it sell in Japan? Hopefully enough to make a sequel after Yakuza 5, and Sega can go the Yakuza route of releasing it in the west with original Japanese dialogue. It'd be a shame to see this series go to waste.

sounds like a good game to put on PS+ for free!!!

I'd agree with your assessment on the shooting mechanics. pretty close to the top for 3rd person shooters. love the way debris flies off the robots, and the limb specific damage.

Wasn't as big of a fan of the level design (a little too narrow and constricted from what I played), the melee combat, the squad mechanics, or the movement. But I could see myself getting it for like $20. But really, I'm hoping it ends up on PS+ eventually >_>

I love the movement. It has a kind of arcade-y feel to it, not very realistic and not trying to be. Sticking to cover can be tricky every now and then, but it works well enough. Agree that the melee combat could have been better.

it's a corridor shooter but the environments are varied and well-designed. it's easy to ignore how tight the spaces are when you're running through them. it's not like Mass Effect 2 where you walk though an office space with desks and chairs conveniently knocked over. the boss battles are in big, open spaces too, with enemies spawning in other places than right in front of you.

$20 was the price I paid for it, btw! I was a little hesitant at $60, but anything under $30 was where I was in. I doubt this'll be up on PS+. Is there even a digital copy on the store?

The PC is good, but I can't get a 360 controller to work with it at all. I can't get the triggers to map to anything.

PC port is fine, playing it right now. was slightly worried based on what i heard but really i think it's just shadows that caused the problem. 360 controller was just... having a 360 controller plugged in. open it in steam, pick configuration, and one of them will be input keyboard or 360. not that you even need that as i've used both in the game without a problem.

unsure if i want to roll Bo or Charlie. Faye is a must.
