#4: Spice GameCube



-Forget Mother 3, F-Zero Climax, Giftpia, Chibi-Robo 3... etc, etc. THIS is the all-time worst NoA snub.

...okay, not really (it's obviously Captain Rainbow, man). But I still can't believe they looked at the GameCube colors and thought: "Y'know, America's not quite ready for an orange console. Let's give 'em Grimace Purple instead." The Spice GameCube is ****ing legendary, and it's become a pretty sought after import item; I'm pretty sure these things have gone for north of $100 here. Which is pretty damn impressive, as people are practically giving away the standard NA GameCubes - even the original Xbox still fetches more on average.

As do I. Really, the N64's the only console to offer a large variety of color options; I don't know why Nintendo never tried that again.

That orange Gamecube is pretty elegant. It's a good color (better then it being burnt orange.)

Nintendo is experimenting alot wth color lately with the 3DS so here's hoping this is things to come for the Wii U. Black w/White at launch is a start.

Good list by the way. Nintendo always has a nice chronological history in something besides games so it's nice to look at the company's past system colors.

That's just the nature of the game! The other companies rarely release alternate colors, so Nintendo definitely has a distinct advantage here. They've been doing it since the Play It Loud Game Boys.

#3: Midnight Purple 3DS



-For the first time since the Grape N64, here it is: another pimp purple video game system. Also called "Waluigi Purple" by some, this 3DS was released just last month to coincide with the new Mario Tennis title. While that game was seen as a disappointment by many, it's tough to imagine anyone disliking this special edition console, which is a perfect example of a dual-color system done right. As much as I love my Red 3DS, I must admit, I wish I held off until this one came out.

#2: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Xbox 360



-This is probably the best thing the Call of Duty franchise has given us, and that's coming from someone who actually does like the games well enough. There's a gritty and downright unprecedented style to this console; it captures the essence of the series very well, while still holding a good amount of appeal to those unfamiliar with the series. Hell, even if you hate CoD - and I know many of you do - I still can't imagine you'd think this 360 is anything less than badass.

-This. This right here is the filet mignon of game consoles. It's a very cutting-edge, relevant design, and it's hard to believe that it came out in 1999; it looks more modern than most current-gen consoles! It's badass in a huge way, and while it may not be purple, it's still pimpin'.

i love the spice gcn, I guess black is ok.....

-Now we're starting to get to the really top-tier stuff. With the DSi XL, Nintendo went in a very classy direction with the colors, and the Bronze one particularly succeeded in that regard. Compared to the mostly terrible colors for the original DSi, this was a welcome surprise - this is a true gentleman's handheld console.

Ugh I got rid of mine earlier this year and I've regretted it ever since.

On the GBC: I don't think very highly of the system, nor its colors. Teal and Lime are kind of cool, but the colors seem very flat overall, and the limited edition GBCs - the two Pokemons and Tommy Hilfiger - aren't appealing either.

...you probably did a double-take at "Tommy Hilfiger," right? Well, I assure you it's real!



On the Classic NES GBA SP: It's cool, especially as a collector's item. But there are plenty of cooler SP variants out there, and from what I hear, the paint on this particular SP is highly prone to wearing out.

On the Zelda systems: I remember being kind of disappointed in the Phantom Hourglass one; it's a lazy design, IMO. But man, that 3DS is pretty beautiful. Maybe I should have considered putting it on the list.

On the custom God of War PSP: ...holy s***, that's badass.

#10: Black Game Boy Micro



-Okay, this is hands-down the most appealing system on the list, and it's not truly offensive or anything. However, I felt obligated to include it, because of how much Nintendo overhyped this design.

The Game Boy Micro, in a nutshell, was a hilariously unnecessary GBA revision that came out in 2005. The DS was already about a year old by that point, so many people laughed it off; some stores even ignored its launch entirely, or pushed it back a week or two. It only sold about 2.5 million units worldwide, because apparently, people don't like gimped versions of outdated hardware (unlike the SP, the GBM couldn't play classic GB/GBC titles).

Believe it or not, though, Nintendo actually tried very hard to hype this thing up. They went on and on about how its design was cutting edge, and how it was the most stylish design ever... etc, etc. Then they released this, possibly the blandest-looking thing in the history of blandness. In all fairness, they also released a silver one at the same time, which had an excellent camo faceplate; but the black one's standard faceplate was very bland, and the two bonus ones were a gotdamn eyesore. Needless to say, stores were practically giving it away towards the end - it was very common to see GBMs going for $30 or so.

#9: Coleco Telstar Arcade

What in the bloody hell is this s***? Oh my God, you've gotta be f***ing with me right now. Objectively, this should probably be in the top five worst, but it's just so hilarious that I can't do it. The kitsch factor is off the charts here - I wouldn't be surprised at all if John Waters owned five of these.

#8: Pikachu N64



-You just knew this thing was gonna be on here. I'm not one of those anti-Pikachu guys by any means, but blue and yellow is a terrible mix here, and it looks so damn tacky as a whole. The Pokemon logos on the system and controller seem particularly shoddy.

#6: Atomic Purple Game Boy Color



-Oh man, I forgot how awful those holographic Game Boy Color boxes looked. I also forget how much of an abomination Atomic Purple is: whether it's the GBC or the N64 controller. When done right, a purple system can be incredibly appealing, and have tons of pimp cred (see: Midnight Purple 3DS). This, however, is hot garbage.
