Even braved shaving my neck and upper lip. A lot fewer nicks than I expected. Note to self: Buy styptic pencil.

Was it a noticeably better shave?

I still need to work on my technique, but I didn't feel any of the tugging that I normally feel while using a cartridge razor. And I did far better on my neck than I did on my sideburns, hence the needing to work on my technique.

Well done, bro. I'm really impressed you did it without many nicks; my face was a mess the first time. Are you using a traditional or disposable straight?

And Ed, feel free to contact me on AIM, but beware. I can talk about this subject for a while. >_>

Disposable, maybe one day I will put down the money for a good traditional. I had only two decent sized nicks, both on my left side burn. neck was spattering of small nicks, nothing worse than you would get with a cartridge razor.

I actually prefer disposable. My traditional razor has never been as sharp. Disposable is just samurai sharp every time; it's safer and more comfortable imo.

Second shave with a straight razor not as successful as the first. Holy s*** the blood. I guess there was some bumps on my chin from the first shave, because it looks like my neck and chin have been perforated. The styptic pencil helped, but still. Neck stings like a b****.

No fear of that, I'm not that inept. Besides, I'm pretty sure the blade is set so it can't cut that deeply.

I got a straight razor (a new Dovo), and I think the edge isn't sharp enough. I tried once out of the box and got a lot of tugging. I ordered a 4000/8000 waterstone and tried sharpening it myself, but I think I probably just made it worse. Got it sharpened by a pro then tried again but I still don't think it is right.

What Yo said about disposables is true, they will always be sharper than traditionals.
