...then don't save any until they're safe.

It's all part of how these things work. Do you save multiple characters to give all the ones you like the better shot (and thus help mold the field to be a bunch of people you wouldn't mind winning), or do you save only your absolute favorites and give no one else support so you can help ensure their safety? That's the decision you have to make.
