penguindrum is easily the best thing on that list, so not that. you'll be disappointed with everything else. you really don't want to see Blood-C.
Naruto, Fairy Tail, Darker than Black, and YYH are way too long to 'complete' compared to the rest so focus on them first. i think Fushigi Yuugi is also in that 'very long' camp.
Berserk's a good one since it's not too long or short. Strawberry Panic if you want lesbians. Vampire Knight if you want reverse harem. Ai Yori Aoisi if you want romance.

but that whole part in the spirit world at the end was very meh to me. That conclusion with Sensui was left me unfulfilled despite him making a solid villain throughout the chapter black arc. But he was basically the only villain who felt particularly villainous. Everyone else on his team just made me wonder why they were on his team. But even so they killed off Game Master which was sort of a "oh wow they killed off a little kid character" moment and then brought him back to life before the arc ended anyways.
Don't get me wrong that arc had a few amazing moments, but more than it's share of mediocre moments as well. The battle of Taboo for example was amazing. But on the whole I consider it to be a definite step down from dark tournament
The sequence with the Doctor was quite the highlight in my book, as was the one with Sniper. And as for motivation, they were all portrayed as people that were disgruntled with humanity, from the sociopath Doctor and Sniper to the rebellious short-sighted bratty kids like Game Master and Seaman. Watching the actual video and the intoxication of power that comes with discovering you have a special ability just sold them. Not to mention Sensui's charismatic cult leader sensibilities. Did you want a tragic backstory for them or something?
I do agree that the conclusion is a bit of a let down.
But that's more or less my point. Some amazing moments, but overall comes off as a let down to me.
honestly if the series had simply ended with Taguro and Genkai headed off to who knows where I think that would have just been perfect.
Instead they went and brought her back to life? This cheapened the amazing ending to Dark Tournament which is just another problem I find with Chapter Black I guess.
Oh yeah I guess I forgot Genkai died in the first place. That kind of thing happens in shonen anime and manga that I kind of didn't even bat an eye.
Well anyways, my main point is that Chapter Black is a very story-heavy and has a very strong and unifying theme that ties in all it's events and characters. The Dark Tournament has some great thrills and fight sequences, but besides the Toguro stuff, is actually quite light on story. The actually climax is probably the best stuff in the series, but I can't put the whole arc above Chapter Black when it really was moslty...just a tournament. (a good one, but still)
I guess I can understand that. But I just don't share the opinion that the characterizations in chaper black were pulled off very well. For every once villain that seemed genuine there was a second that just felt so unimportant. I did like Sniper so I'll give you that, but some of them just fell flat to me.
Another thing is the 3 "good guys" they picked up during the "yusuke was kidnapped" episodes. They began by seeming incredibly sinister. The first time I watched that portion my interest was legitimately piqued and it felt like they were going to be badasses. And they they join up and are pretty wimpy. Not just in terms of strength or usefulness, but their characters themselves are just blah. They all proved somewhat useful at times during the arc, but it still suffered from having too many protagonists and from them being on a team in which they are largely outclassed by their allies. So at times it felt like everyone was being thrown into strange situations just so Taboo or Shadow or Copy would possibly be useful.
So even if we grant that (some of) the villains were done well, all of the new allies pretty much sucked. And even if it had more plot on the whole than DT, DT still had the most emotional moments in the series. Everything with Genkai in the arc was perfect. I guess I'm just never going to get over chapter black cheapening her death. Maybe some day I'll just try to ignore what happened and give CB another watch with an open mind.
Fair enough. The real disappointment is The Three Kings arc (and the series) being rushed to to death. Hiei and Kurama's plots in the demon world were really interesting to me, and then it all kind of comes to clean end all of a sudden.
But yeah, see how YYH creates 5 posts of discussion? Your choice is clear.

>_>; darker than black season 1, the middle ova episodes, season 2.... yeah, it's lengthy. anything that breaks 30 enters that turf (since odds are it'll break 50).

Where are you up to in them? From that list, Gungrave is the best fo sho. FMP (finish the first series and START FUMOFFU IMMEDIATLEY. Best comedy anime.) and Steins;Gate are both fantastic as well.
A lot of it depends on where you are though, e.g. if you've only watched the first episode of Gungrave REJOICE. It's is by far the worst episode in the series.. 2 through to 16 is probably one of my favourites runs in any fictional media ever. If you're at 16 it gets worse and completely different to what it was, but picks up a lot in the last few episodes.
