Keeping track of people's alts is the only use I can think of. (Though I wouldn't use them regardless, because highlighting is ugly. I'd consider it if it were just text.)

I suppose you could tag alts as whatever the main is. I also don't really see the necessity, but I'm not gonna complain about the functionality being there.

I've only seen dumb people mention using it. gotta assume most people are just ignoring it. the only good thing about this "feature" is that even though the worst posters on the board are sure to use it, we won't have to see them doing it.
