Oh wow, this list is pretty different.

I "mained" Roy before and spammed special moves. ...It was fun, okay. Plus, he sounded funny and his Up B was so spammable. But I never really used him, I mainly stuck with Mario.

I generally like everyone in the SSB series, not sure who I would rate last. Probably Meta Knight. And Pit, because Pit is just "that guy" who is never fun to play as or fight against.

Oh man back when I was a kid, I “mained” this guy for a while. Thankfully I did a sensible thing and switched to Fox later, totally pissing off one of my friends in the process since he used Fox too.

That home run sound is the only reason I liked him I think.

Ness is also one of those characters that haven’t really been good in Smash games. To rub it in, there was an infinite that worked only on him and Lucas! He had a short-lived reign at the top tier spot in 64 but then people found out how exploitable his recovery really is. And as long as Ness has to PK thunder his way back on stage, he will probably never be good. =/

His costume is sick though.

Melee Link is decent though. He'd be mid if He didnt utterly suck against Star Fox.

64 Link has no recovery and is slow, and Brawl is just a giant can of what the hell was this for.

List fails because N64 Link is one of the worst characters of all time. Nothing says terrible like being able to be killed by being tossed off a cliff at 40ish% and having a decent chance of not making it back.

I can’t believe what they did to my girl, making her as big as Bowser in this game. I know it’s the Power Suit but after years of playing Samus, you can’t just switch the size up on me that drastically. After almost being good in Melee, it seems the developers realized their mistake and made Samus one of the worst characters in the game again. Thanks.

One positive this version has is the fusion suit. It looks realllly sick. And you can spam air grabs.

#48: Zelda (Melee)

Zelda has one legitimate strategy. Spam fair/bair. That is pretty much all you need to do. Sure you can throw in some B’s, side B’s and up air’s but that kick is the meat of her game. Down air is laughable to the point where dying from it is an insult to your playing ability. Tilts and throws are okay but they all eventually lead to the same thing, fair/bair.

Forward air/back air is hands down Zelda’s second best move. Sweetspoted, it does around 20 damage and electrifying knockback. Five of these and that stock is gone. You can do it with less than five too depending on character matchups and positioning on the stage.

Zelda’s not a good character, or even a deep one. She’s definitely on the lower end of the fun spectrum for me but I just like the character so I still occasionally play her in super casuals from time to time.

Aww yeah, Peaches, Mewtwo, PT, Brawl Zelda and ZSS have yet to appear. I disagree with Lucas (fun as hell to play) and Ike (landing hits with him feels almost as good as with Melee Ganon) but I'm okay with everything else.

Not as good as the beast she would be in Melee but 64 Jiggz isn’t too bad. You might have noticed that my “favorite move” for a lot of the 64 characters is their down air, which is usually a drill kick. Jigglypuff is no exception. Drill kicks are just so satisfying to hit, that sound effect and the white hit sparks all just give me a warm feeling inside.

Jigglypuff’s inclusion in the game at all surprised a lot of people initially but apparently it was super popular in Japan and Jiggles has never been happier to be part of the franchise especially her Melee version.

#43: Young Link (Melee)
Preferred color: Lavender
Favorite move: dash attack

Young Link just doesn’t have the swag factor that Link does. He’s a bit of an anomaly for me in that he’s the only “faster but weaker” version of a character in a pair that I don’t prefer over the “stronger but slower” version.

I like a lot of his weapons over Link’s but Link’s other moves just kick more ass than YL’s. Link definitely has the better Up B but YL has fire arrows, boomerang with sound effect, sick f-tilt for edgeguarding and a fire spike, all of which are positives for him. I’ve been backing off on him for whatever reason lately though. Lacks that “oomf.”

Favorite move: neutral air

Pichu is often the most frequently cited “worst character in the game” in Melee but imo Pichu has one very important thing over Kirby: decent moves. While Kirby I think has almost no good moves, Pichu has some okay ones. Pichu’s also pretty fast, has good recovery options and okay smash attacks.

Neutral air is one of the decent ones with decent knockback and one of the best approaches and anti-approaches. Up Smash is weaker than Pikachu’s but it can still kill pretty decently. Forward smash is great for edgeguarding, sweetspotted version gives great knockback and unsweetspoted version can lead to aerials.

The “Pichu sucks because he hurts himself” argument is overstated imo. Because Smash doesn’t operate with life bars or set health, the self-inflicting damage takes far less of a toll than you would expect. A lot of Pichu’s good moves don’t even use electricity so you can even avoid damage most of the time.

On top of all that, Pichu is adorable with those goggles and two taunts. Also sleeping Pichu is cute too. ^_^

I think this is the best Mario’s ever been in Smash but even then he is completely outclassed by Doc. I guess he has better recovery but pills outclass fireballs due to their trajectory, Doc’s smash attacks are stronger and all of Mario’s aerials are just worse versions of Doc’s. Why even play this guy…

#40: Luigi (Melee)

Luigi can be one of the most annoying characters to play against if you’re not used to it. He slides the most out of the cast and when you’re not playing Fox, it can annoy the hell out of other people to just wavedash down smash across the stage back and forth. Of course when you get tired of that it can help with aerial approaches too.

Forward air hits a lot harder than you’d expect, up air and back air serve almost the same functions as the other Marios and down air has the most infamous hitbox of his butt.

Recovery-wise, Luigi struggles as his Up B has no horizontal distance so he has to rely on his Side B, which makes CPU Luigi’s laughable. But his side B isn’t as funny as his Up B when you’re getting hit by that 1/8 chance misfire which is a ***** if you get hit with it.

Luigi’s fun to mess around with from time to time but he is definitely one of the characters most out there and can be awkward to both play and play against.

This guy can be the most fun character to play in a stupid way. You could get away with literally doing nothing but throwing Pikmin the whole game, depending on how bad your opponent(s) are, especially in FFAs.

It would only take one more game for Falcon to become the manliest and most fabulous character in the universe but his 64 version is not bad at all. He has decent moves including a meteor, is the fastest running character in the game and has nice finishers with Up B.

Pretty bad recovery and no angle on up B. His bombs feel so heavy but I think this may be my favorite boomerang. It looks so plain but the sound effects and combo-heaviness of 64 in general just make it look really cool.

Also while he may be a bad character, I think Isai’s Link is one of his sickest characters. Projectile involved combos are too good. Link is just cool like that.
