I'm... not really sure. Maybe... The End? I can't think of any particularly brutal fights in the series.

Do the intentionally stupidly hard tank fights in Peace Walker where they gave the vehicles tons of HP and infinitely spawning waves of enemies count?

Because those. All of them.

If not hardest, then at least most annoying.

see things like that just aren't fun

like mgs is a great series, possibly my favorite, but there's nothing fun about trying to get big boss rank

Extreme is fun, if you accept you're gonna lose a lot. Here's to The End getting my vote though.

As a kid, so did I. To this day precious few people understand how that's even possible, but the M1 Tank was the hardest fight for me hands down.

They're not infinitely spawning. I think the most you ever get is like 48, and stealthily taking out all the guards is the fastest way to get the commander to come out.

And most of those are pretty easy if you either abandon non-lethal or wait until you have the Fulton Launcher and/or Fulton Mines plus Bandana. The ones where they don't spawn from the vehicle require a bit of strategy/luck on certain maps, though.

I would never play Euro Extreme or even Extreme because I think it would make me dislike my favourite games. I get frustrated easily. Plus, (MGS2 spoilers) Solidus choking section would be impossible for me to get past, I struggle on hard.

The End was long, not difficult, as many have said. The biggest pain in the ass is getting caught when you look in FPV for too long, that's just augh.

I struggled with The Boss. Didn't struggle with any of the MGS2 bosses to my recollection. Died a coupla times but ehh. REX gave me trouble, so did the M1 tank.

What makes the harrier on European Extreme hard?

Almost every attack is a 1-hit kill, and the fly-by attacks all have multiple rockets added to them, even just the machine guns. The only thing that isn't quite a 1-hit kill as I recall was the machine gun attack where he hovers around you, and it gets cheap hits on you there all the time.

It also takes around 40 Stinger missiles.

Almost every other boss in the series besides maybe Fortune (if she counts), The Pain, and Raging Raven.

I've died or was in slight danger of dying on most of bosses at least once, not counting MGS4. If The End used lethal ammo or you somehow lost all of your food the fight could be hard, but as is if you screw up you just pause, dig out the tranquilizer dart and eat some food.

Yeah, Harrier and then RAYs. MGS2 isn't much to scoff at on Normal (although the RAYs can still be a pain the ass sometimes) but on European Extreme it easily bests the rest of the main series, at least, in headache potential.

The RAYs the first time through. I had 2 rations and it wasn't enough. I actually didn't finish the game for a good couple of weeks after my repeated frustration with the RAYs.

It's really easy for me now so it's kind of hard to imagine that I struggled with it so much back then, but yeah. That's probably the worst.

Not if you abuse the rails, then he's a joke.

That itself only takes off a little bit at a time. You'll run out of Stinger missiles/grenades before finishing him with that. And that doesn't deal with his surviving his other attacks.

The End isn't difficult at all especially since he literally can't kill you. It just takes a long time to beat him, but it's one of the greatest boss fights ever.

I don't know about most difficult... maybe Metal Gear RAY. I have the most trouble with the first game's bosses because of the outdated controls. I pretty much suck at the game overall. Still love it though.

The first two Metal Gear games (especially Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake on the MSX) had some brutal boss fights which is why I don't think they are comparable to the MGS series.

Black Color (The first boss fight in MG2) is IMO the toughest boss from the entire Metal Gear series.

As for the MGS series. None of the bosses are tough on a Normal Playthrough. I dunno if The End is the hardest but he certainly takes the most time to beat. Oh and I had trouble with Laughing Octopus on my first playthrough. But once I figured out how to beat her, she's one of the easiest.

Dr. Pettrovich, too. If you don't have enough ammo the fight is literally unwinnable, unless there's some method to beat him that I don't know about.

Petro's a pain because you need a number of rations to survive that fight. If I remember correctly you can use mines if you run out of rocket ammo. But I think I've had more trouble with Gray Fox than the doctor.

As for the difficulty of bosses in each MG game

MG1
Metal Gear > Arnold Twins > Hind-D > Tank > Coward Duck > Dozer > Fire Trooper > Machine Gun Kid > Shoot Gunner > Big Boss

MG2
Black Color > Night Sight > Metal Gear > Hind-D > Ultra Box > Red Blaster > Running Man > Gray Fox > Dr. Pettrovich > Predator > Big Boss

MGS1
Metal Gear Rex > Gunner > Hind-D > Sniper Wolf 1 > Sniper Wolf 2 > Liquid Snake > Ninja > Revolver Ocelot > Vulcan Raven > Psycho Mantis

MGS2
Metal Gear Rays > Solidus Snake > Vamp > Harrier > Fatman > Olga > Fortune (If you consider it a boss fight)

MGS3
The Boss > Volgin > The End > The Fury > The Pain > The Fear > Ocelot > Shagohod > Volgin w/ Shagohod > The Sorrow (Not really a boss fight)

MGS4
Laughing Octopus > Screaming Mantis > Raging Raven > Metal Gear Ray > Crying Wolf > Liquid Ocelot > Vamp

MG2 >>> MG1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> MGS3 > MGS2 > MGS4 > MGS1 in terms of diffculty

Wow, just no. Unless you're counting TTS as MGS1, which way dumbed down almost every boss fight but Psycho Mantis and Liquid (and maybe the Hind-D). But even then, MGS3 is not the harder than MGS2, except maybe The Boss.

Also, you're way overplaying MG2's and MG1's boss difficultly. Especially MG1. Placement for those two is still correct, though.

First let me make this clear. I only play the MGS games on Normal and MGS1 is the only one I've beaten on Extreme. My rating is based on the Normal difficulty, not easy not hard not extreme.

Wow, just no. Unless you're counting TTS as MGS1, which way dumbed down almost every boss fight but Psycho Mantis and Liquid (and maybe the Hind-D). But even then, MGS3 is not the harder than MGS2, except maybe The Boss.

MGS1 (Original, I hate TTS btw) - I've played it countless times and even on my worst day, I can beat the game dying once or twice at the most. All of the bosses are really easy to figure out and unless you get really unlucky or careless you just cannot die. But in all fairness, I played MGS1 during the time of its release and countless times after that. I've probably forgotten any problems I might have had with any of the bosses there because I first played it waaaaaay back then.

MGS2 - Metal Gear Rays are Solidius proved troublesome at first but the rest are just child's play.

MGS3 - I don't know if its just me but I don't think I've ever died in an MGS game that much. (Just a handful but significant compared to the others) Volgin and especially The Boss posed trouble for me when I first played the game.

MGS4 - I'll admit I died quite a number of times against Laughing Octopus but once I got past that, I don't think I died once in that game. I don't know if you can even lose the final battle and other than Octopus, MGS4's bosses are a joke. Auto-Aim and strafing makes the game even easier.

Also, you're way overplaying MG2's and MG1's boss difficultly. Especially MG1. Placement for those two is still correct, though.

Are you freaking kidding me? MG2's Black Color and Night Sight are probably two of the cheapest and most frustrating bosses I've ever come across. Not saying MG2 is the hardest game ever but from the series, it most definitely is.

I agree with the fact that other than Metal Gear, none of the bosses in MG1 are really that tough but they can still get you and its easier to make mistakes there. Lets be honest compared to the solid games, MG is still miles ahead in terms of difficulty.
