MG is still miles ahead in terms of difficulty.

Yeah but not really because of bosses.

Yeah, this. The normal game is the hard part there. The bosses are not that bad at all. There's nothing even hard about the Metal Gear if you know what to do (though if you didn't write down the pattern it is literally impossible).

I don't know if you can even lose the final battle

Oh, you very much can. Some of the phases are legitimately difficult on Extreme.

MGS3 - I don't know if its just me but I don't think I've ever died in an MGS game that much.

Besides The Boss, I honestly don't know how. I think my second most amount of deaths in that game were against The Fury, and that was mostly just forgetting that the front of the map was a pit and rolling off of it (and Subsistence put an end to that). I don't think I've died on another boss besides Volgin and maybe Ocelot once or twice the first time through. And I've never played MGS3 on less than Hard. Most of them just don't do that much damage at all.

Are you freaking kidding me? MG2's Black Color and Night Sight are probably two of the cheapest and most frustrating bosses I've ever come across. Not saying MG2 is the hardest game ever but from the series, it most definitely is.

These two may be hard, but unless you're ranking by the hardest boss in the game and not average boss difficulty, MG2 is still not that much harder than all the rest.

I remember him being pathetically easy my first time, and then having trouble on subsequent playthroughs. Still haven't figured that one out.

The torture chamber when going for the good/canon ending on the PSX version. I am a horrible button masher.

Yeah I literally cannot beat that on my own on EE. I have to have someone take over for about 10 seconds halfway through. A minute straight is a long time to maintain that level of button mashing.

I hunted down a turbo controller for the express purpose of clearing that on EE. Wasn't happening otherwise

It is infact much harder than the rest because even the most average gaming kid can beat any of bosses in the MGS games w/o much trouble (On a normal playthrough). I don't think the same can be said for MG1 and especially MG2.

And speaking of average difficulty of bosses, I can honestly say that even the easiest boss in MG2 is tougher than the toughest boss in the MGS series. Why? Because in the MGS series, once you figure out the pattern to beat a boss, it is next to impossible to lose to them if you're playing seriously (On a normal playthrough) whereas in MG2 (And even some MG1 bosses), even if you know their pattern, you have a much higher chance to screw up because of the dated controls and mechanics. Not to mention, Black Color and Night Sight requires a fair amount of luck to beat.
And I think people over here are really undermining the MG1 bosses considering the fact that on a bad day the bad mechanics can screw you up against some of the easiest bosses.

Comparing the difficulty of MGS bosses to the MG bosses is like comparing Final Fantasy bosses to Shin Megami Tensei bosses.

Isn't there some trick where you angle the camera in a certain direction during the Solidus choke scene and your stamina doesn't go down nearly as fast? I seem to remember hearing that somewhere before.

But for me, MGS2 Vamp was the hardest boss in the series, but I only play on Normal.

The End was not that difficult or that long.

Personally, the Metal Gear Ray(?) fights at the end of 2 were brutal on Extreme and I had a lot of trouble against Ocelot in 4 on Extreme as well.

I punched Psycho mantis to death with a slot 1 controller once.

God that was time consuming.

Not if you use Stinger whenever he pops out of the water. When he gets faster during the end stages (and he'll only have little health by then) simply gun him down with an Ak or whats-that-MGS2-machinegun name.

I thought that was the only way to beat him back then. He still isn't really hard, just freaking time consuming to beat that way.

And this may sound stupid but I switched off my console when the blank screen with Hideo appeared. *Sigh. I was young ^_^
