* WiiU screen is single-touch due to costs of multitouch, and popularity of the DS. * Nintendo is done with friend codes in favor of an account system. * Undecided on whether to include Nintendo Land with the WiiU, very popular at the show.
* WiiU screen is single-touch due to costs of multitouch, and popularity of the DS. disappointing
* Nintendo is done with friend codes in favor of an account system. good! great, even! I hope our vc is tied to an account now! that way if my wiiu breaks I don't lose games, too.
Nice to hear they're getting rid of friend codes. Now they just need to announce the WiiU Pro Controller planned to be compatible with almost every game and I'll be more interested.
Nintendo Land may not be very exciting, but I don't really doubt that it's fun to play. I bet the people who tried the demo left with good impressions.

as someone who is actually at the show now, i can confirm that nintendoland is easily the most crowded game at their exhibit. unless this is artificial...

Damn, I'm shocked. That's a cool piece of info though. What other games seem popular?

I agree with you. I already said this in another topic, but I'll post it here as well:
It remains to be seen how many games will actually be able to use the Wii U Pro Controller (a classic video game controller design). Although the Wii had a classic controller of its own, not many Wii games were able to use it.
I think when a gimmick is forced upon you, like with the Wii's motion controls, that's the kind of gimmick that will have people hating on it. At least the 3DS's gimmick could be turned off and you don't miss out on anything by not choosing to play with the 3D effect turned on.
Going back on the Wii U Pro Controller, if almost every game will be able to use that controller in place of the tablet controller, then the Wii U has a chance at not being a failure.

As I think about it, wouldn't it be better if Nintendo Land wasn't a bundle game?
The comments I've been seeing from hardcore gamers online mostly agree they wouldn't pay for it, and would only be interested in it if it was a pack-in. But by including it with the Wii U, it would likely increase the price, so they'd still be paying for it.
Wii Sports and Wii Play have already proved that simple games like these can be million sellers. Most ordinary customers would have no problem buying the game separately. So logically wouldn't it be better for everyone if it wasn't bundled? Casual gamers won't care, hardcore gamers won't miss it and will have a slightly cheaper console, and Nintendo makes oodles of money.

* Nintendo Land is the best game they have to sell the idea of the WiiU. * They want the game to have a very high attach rate with the system, still deciding launch details. * "Launch window" is the first three to four months--Pikmin 3 is a launch window game. * Retro's game unlikely to be shown for a while. * They want to launch at a price that's considered a great value, mass market product.

Wii Sports Resort and Wii Play both came with bonus hardware pack-ins.

I would be surprised if that wasn't the case tbh. You could out of E3 knowing that Nintendo is staking their 2012 console fortunes on NintendoLand. That's a big deal. The other options are "yet another floaty 2D Mario" and Pikmin. Mario will sell millions and Pikmin might sell 1 million, so not small potatoes, but it's stuff we've played before.

nobody is going to not buy the wiiu just because it has a pack in game. therefore, more money for nintendo if they pack it in and charge for it. later, they can drop the pack in and the price and make news with a price drop to drive further sales.
but motion controls being forced on you didn't make the wii a failure.
not making a value judgement here, just an observational counterpoint.
Only a failure among the hardcore gamers. Casuals went crazy over the Wii, because they didn't really care about the motion controls at all.
true, though lots of the casuals were drawn to the motion controls, especially old people and children, so I wouldn't say that overall they didn't care about motion controls.
One of the reasons is that it allows for more functionality. You can zoom into pages, swipe to a new page, capacitive works much better with fingers. There are a lot of bonuses, especially on a screen the size of the WiiU's.
Nintendo Land sounds fun, but I doubt it's something I'd be willing to spend a ton of money on unless it's packaged with the system (a la Wii Sports) or an extra controller (a la Wii Play).

i'd assume something like nintendo land would be popular at e3 since anyone can pick up and play for a quick moment without needing to be invested long term or anything
If it isn't a pack-in, and I have to think Nintendo is leaning that way, it doesn't have to be a full price game. It's the kind of thing they could sell for $40 instead of $60, though if they'd be willing to do that I don't know.
yeah zoom swipe stuff has its purposes... I mean Im on my droid right now so I know about that. but I dont see it being a big deal for a console controller. UPad isnt a tablet
Yep. It's just an assumption that there would be a price increase to offset higher development costs. If Nintendo stays at $50, what do third-parties do?

I dunno I'm sure there are games from 2009 that could use the touch *battery dies*
