The Sabres were pretty awful Muffin, and Hasek played most of his career with them. And I totally said that Roy played on elite teams for his career, just like Brodeur.

And yet, Brodeur has tacked up how many more wins?
And the dude isn't even done. He's pretty much already said that he's coming back at least for next year. Barring injury, that probably gets him another 30 wins at least.

Are you forgetting how awful Brodeur has been for the better part of the last few years? 2 out of the past 4 years he's had a sub-.900 save percentage and a 3.00+GAA. Meanwhile, Roy, during that year he got retired by Bruntte, had a .910 save percentage and 2.27 GAA.
And wins don't mean s***. Luongo (you know, the guy who REPLACED him during the Olympics because he stunk) and Lundqvist are likely BOTH going to retire in the top 3 in wins. Brodeur is behind Roy and Hasek in all of the important categories (GAA, Hart's, Smythe's, Vezina's, Playoffs,).
-- you just can't live in that negative way...make way for the positive day
In 2003, when Brodeur was getting robbed of the Smythe, Patrick Roy, SURROUNDED by elite players, got retired by Andrew Brunette and a bunch of no-talent scrubs.
That's a pretty lousy point for your argument. How about you try to argue Brodeur's terrible playoff streak since winning the last cup?
03-04: Out in the first round. 04-05: Lockout 05-06: Out in the second round. 06-07: Out in the second round. 07-08: Out in the first round. 08-09: Out in the first round. 09-10: Out in the first round. 10-11: Missed the playoffs
So really, you can say what you want about Brodeur's stats, but the fact remains that if he doesn't have an all star cast around him, he's nothing in the post season.

Thinking Luigi and WAAAA > Pokemon Trainers was dumb, and Pokemon rocks. In other news, Valve is a pretty f***ing terrible company, let's be honest.
I should add that the Devil's were a top 4 seed in every one of those years except for one (03/04 they were a six seed). Most of those defeats were in 4 or 5 games. The game 7 defeat to Carolina a few years back was a huge choke job from Brodeur as well.

You know, I was thinking about that the other day and I really don't know what to tell you. If this was any other team (except the Caps) this would probably be my most hated playoffs ever and I'd be ranting and raving about what a disgrace it is.
But it's a team I love, so I don't care. Sorry?

That fluke goal was awful. I always say **** toronto, but that shouldn't have happened to them. Sort of reminds me of the fluke OT goal by Vancouver over SJ last year.
On a side note, from the NHL's perspective, they really want the Devils to win so it becomes interesting again. I barely watched any of game 3 and 4 but I've been watching 5 now that its slightly interesting.
The pride of the Devils avoided a sweep, but I really think the Kings could be in legitimate trouble if they lose game 5. I think they'll win, but I'd rather they not so it gets more interesting.
I had them losing game 5 to Phoenix and winning in 6 though. A game 5 loss has to happen sometime... Right? The Kings might lose a lot of composure if it happens here.
Fun fact is I sort of had the Devils losing in the finals before the postseason started (I figured they'd get soft teams like Florida and NY, while Boston/Pittsburgh/Philadelphia pounded each other enough for the Devils to sneak through). My WCF was Blues>Canucks with a 7 game scare on the Canucks by the Kings.
I think I was wrong about the Blues!
Yes my "favorite" to win the cup going in was the only team the Kings swept.
Lolme.
The Devils haven't been swept in 43 straight best of 7 series, most of any of the leagues. They've had one big goaltender during that stretch.
Marty just will not let it happen it seems.

On a side note Brodeur and Roy are definitely in the discussion together, though Roy retiring "early" did hurt his numbers.
Brodeur now is still a better goaltender than at least 2/3 of the starting goaltenders in the league.

At least you didn't end your 4 year streak of preseason Cup winner predictions by picking the Predators over Bruins

I already posted the correct GOAT order in this topic.
Prime Hasek > Roy > Hasek > Sawchuk > Brodeur > Tretiak (Can be placed anywhere below Prime Hasek and Roy)

The Devils losing 3 consecutive OT games at home in the same series would be ____________.

Apparently punching Mike Richards in the face is perfectly legal...
Many things are suddenly legal when a league wants a team to win!
Ok so maybe its not that bad... But...

Part of me wouldn't mind some late game tying magic by the Kings just so they get that absurd record.
Because its a pretty cool record.
The Kings actually feel human right now for I think the first time in the entire playoffs.
Going to be really interesting to see how they cope with this if they don't pull a miracle.

I bet the Kings lost on purpose just so they could win it all at home.
I know this is probably a joke, but given that you do see people actually believe this kind of nonsense:
Nobody would voluntarily lose a game that would put them into a position where they have a 25% chance to lose the series before considering momentum.
Seems like it's getting easier for teams that go down 3-0 to get back into things.
Definitely. It's partly the greater parity the NHL has, and partly the fact that a 3-0 comeback has actually happened recently (instead of a generation ago), but 3-0 doesn't feel like the lock it used to be, which is only a good thing for my interest/excitement level at this point in playoff series.

Players actually prefer to win the Cup on the road - that way they get to party with just the team for one night before returing home for another big celebration.
And yeah, no team would willingly lose a game.
-- you just can't live in that negative way...make way for the positive day
I think you guys are reading way too much into it.
Game 3 was dominated by the Kings. Game 4 was dominated by the Devils. Other than that, the series has been pretty damn even, with a couple bounces deciding things. I'd say that the Devils played slightly better in Game 2, but lost due to bad luck, and the Kings played slightly better in Game 5, but lost due to bad luck.
In a series where the flow of play seems about 50/50, I'd still much rather be the team who only needs to win one game than the team who needs to win two.

I feel like in the first five games, we've seen a LOT of chances that just flukily haven't gone in. I wouldn't be surprised to see a high scoring game tonight. Brodeur especially is due to let in a few...
