Tekkit 3 has been released (in a testing phase, apparently), but my server is not quite ready yet. I need to do a few things to ensure that we have a smooth transition into things. Including setting up additional server-side mods (for property ownership and economy), load testing, and so on.
NOTE: THIS SERVER IS TEMPORARY AND WILL BE RESET! You will most likely lose everything you did. Equivalent Exchange is part of Tekkit, but I disabled it. You don't need to do anything. If you're wondering, it has been found to be overpowered in SMP, and there are some dupe bugs right now. It may be enabled in the future.
How to get Tekkit 3: 1. Go to http://www.technicpack.net/launcher/ and select a download for your operating system 2. Download it, open it, and select "Tekkit" from the drop down box on the top left. 3. Click Options on the bottom right corner. Select "manual build selection" and then select "3.0.3| 1.2.5 | Latest" from the list. Click OK. 4. Enter your Minecraft login information, then login. Wait for it to download and open, then log into the server as usual
IP: 76.175.53.255 Max players: 6 (when the server is full, players who have idled for more than 5 minutes are kicked) Server mods (besides Tekkit): Residence, iConomy, SignShop, HyperConomy, DynMap (map is at 76.175.53.255:8123 ) You can look up the commands yourself if you want. I have a basic idea of what all of these do (obviously), but I'm new to them as well. Will add/remove as needed.
I can't help you much with that, considering I know nothing about it. After looking it up, I see that it's based off The Hunger Games, which is also something I know nothing about!

We really should do a survival games. I'd host it, but my laptop would crap itself.
Anyways, a bit dissapointed in the lack of EE. I was planning on going pure alchemist at first. Oh well, I'll just go straight to nuclear engineering :P
Tekkit is a mod compilation. It has a number of big mods, and a bunch of smaller ones.
For big we have...
Industrialcraft: Electrical power, machines that do everything from grind ore into dust, to generate matter out of thin air (and HUGE amounts of power), alongside some nifty pieces of gear. Buildcraft: Pipes and engines and automatic mines. Buildcraft is mostly about getting things from one place to another, be it from the ground to your chests, or from your chests into the furnace, it lets you automate a lot of things. Equivalent Exchange: Transmutation of matter. Everything has a value, and if you have two things of equal value (say, a stack of dirt and obsidian, or four gold and a diamond) and you can trade one for the other. Latter on you can get stuff for nothing, and make extremely expensive, but utterly amazing items.
Then you got the small stuff. Treecapitator, which makes the whole tree fall if you hack at it with an axe, mo creatures, which adds things like rabbits and lions, millinaire, which adds villages of people, and a bunch more things.
Just FYI: I am taking the server down in the next 15-30 minutes. My modem has been giving me poor download speeds (upload speed is fine, and that's what's important for hosting a server), and I am going to replace it. The server will not be up until late tonight.

Well I tried single player a little more (found out that the reason I spawned in a glitchy ocean was because I guess Tekkit is the multiplayer version, so I went to Technic) so that I wouldn't enter the server a complete noob.
A ghost and a giant zombie thing took out my house before I could really get started
Well, I somehow got in, found my way to the Ender realm by accident, fell into a black fountain while looking for a way out, and now I think I won the game because every time I join there's just a slow scrolling credit thing
Did some server updates. I updated Tekkit (you don't need to do anything on your end), I changed some server mods around (added Essentials, removed iConomy), and some other stuff. Enjoy.
-- multiple updates tomorrow or i will publicly admit that zachnorn is better than me -Sess/MRNICEWATCH Posted 3/5/12, no more updates since...
1. I think Saturday is a good time to start the server. I'm thinking the afternoon, but we'll see. 2. I'm going to Arizona next week most likely. Although the server will be up and I can talk to you through Minecraft Mobile Admin, I can't fix some problems. If my router or modem has a problem, I can't do anything until I come back. I should be gone for a few days. 3. There will be an in-game economy. I'm going to try to make it useful and maybe even fun. The idea is that people will have more reason to explore, build, mine, trade, etc. Property can be purchased with money, and of course, there will be stores owned by the server and other players. The server store in particular will sell non-renewable resources added later (such as vanilla's emerald). It's all optional, though.
Finally, here are the rules I'm considering implementing for the finished server: General rules: 1. No griefing, no trolling, no flaming. Let's keep it fun. 2. Not a rule, but I'd recommend using Residence to protect your property. /res handles most stuff with Residence.
Mod-specific rules: 1. BUILDCRAFT: Keep quarries away from places where they could be disruptive. Examples: near people's houses, spawn, mines, etc. Put a layer of something (dirt, sandstone, etc.) and a sign to make it less dangerous afterwards. 2. INDUSTRIALCRAFT: Keep nuclear reactors in safe areas. Use reinforced stone, and keep it monitored or shut off with redstone. 3. Don't steal power, electricity, Blutricity, etc. 4. In general, don't abuse mods to make them destructive or annoying.
Thoughts?

No problem with those rules, although I'd ask that you make a post here too if you end up making a new topic for the actual server so that I don't have to search for it.
Also, is there a wiki for the Tekkit stuff like there is for basic Minecraft stuff? I want to see recipes and such
You would need to buy Minecraft in order to use the server. If you're asking about the money/economy stuff I was talking about, then no.

Will do!

That link does help a lot, but I was also hoping for a 'what can my pickaxe mine' guide.
I built an Extractor in my single player game, realized I put it in the wrong place, hit it with a pickaxe, and only got the Machine block back. Took half an hour to find more rubber. But the Generator beside it mined fine, so I dunno.
