But has no interest or involvement in practically every other video game in existence bar games that are very similar to WoW or Dota? Can someone explain how this blizzard consumer bubble works because its confusing me.
They're high quality games that very few others even come near, let alone beat. I'm not a huge fan of either or anything, but you're really lying to yourself if you try to deny that. And Dota isn't even really a Blizzard game.

I think you might be letting stereotypes influence reality. I'm pretty sure that's not the case and everyone I know from WoW enjoys many other games from various genres. WoW is played by like 10 million people; I'm guessing the majority of those do, in fact, play many other types of games as well.
Started with playing the Warcraft 2 Demo on a PC gamer demo disc. I was enamored with Warcraft then and there. My brother managed to actually find the original Warcraft, and we played the hell out of it. He beat it with Orcs, I beat it with Humans(Back when Warcraft Humans were awesome). We then saw Warcraft 2 double pack, bought that, and enjoyed the hell out of that. There was also the old, old, OLD trailer for Diablo 1 (GOOD LUCK). There was also a preview for a game called PAX Imperium but no one knows what the hell happened to that.
Diablo 1 happened, then we learned of Starcraft. The rest writes itself.

Oh SuperNiceDog's doing it again dude. SuperNiceDog, you ain't no pimp dude
I don't play games with monthly subscriptions. I don't particularly like 1v1 in Starcraft 2 but customs, team games and single player was worth the one time pay of sixty dollars.
Love Starcraft/Brood War Love Diablo 2 Like Diablo 1 Like Starcraft 2 (although bnet 2.0 is trash) Like Warcraft 3 pre DotA (dota killed war3's custom map scene) Neutral to Warcraft 1 (bad A.I. by today's standards, great game for its time though) Dislike Warcraft 2 (I don't see how anyone thinks this game is better than C+C and Red Alert, two games that came out around the same time. War 2's story is great though). Got bored of WoW about 5 months after the beta ended (The beta was the best era of the game).
Diablo 3 looks very.....meh to me. I dont see it with staying power like diablo 2 tbh. Gamers for the most part move on after something stops being the "hot topic", especially in the era where game releases are treated like a major event and how people now have social media to conveniently talk about the game with their friends. See: how few of people play skyrim now that its been 6 months.
The RMAH is a key component to the game, and if people stop playing the game after 2 or 3 months....screws over the people who have to use it, and screws over blizzard's bottom line.
People compare Diablo 3 to WoW a lot, and there is many comparisons to be made to WoW. But in terms of community staying power, I think it will be more like Starcraft 2 in the sense that once the game becomes about 3 to 5 months old, there will be fairly large exodus to whatever big game comes out next.
