Board 8 > Mercenaries 4: Interest check (WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT?)

Most of you probably remember Mercenaries. That forum game MyWorldIsSquare created several years ago. The one that had all those "Who Would Win in a Fight?" threads that pit armies of video game characters against each other in hypothetical combat, with the winner being determined by whichever side got the most votes. There have been 3 iterations of Mercs so far. While the second was held mostly on a private board, the first and third were all on Board 8 proper.

The question is, would people be interested in a Mercenaries 4? For those that were paying attention, Mercs 3 ended on an incredibly sour note with a lot of infighting and divergent views of how the game should be handled. Merc veterans like myself, Lopen, Ed Bellis, Tom Bombadil, tirofog, and numbers are at an impasse: do we try to fix Mercs 4 and make it fun again? Or do we create an entirely new game? We have several half baked ideas for new games, some which borrow heavily from Mercs, some that don't.

So here's the deal: what do you guys want? Do you want to revive Mercenaries and give it another shot? Or do you want us to come up with something new?

I think that if anything should be done with either the Mercs "brand" as it were or the idea to pit characters against one another in staged fights with team owners you would have to call it Mercs V because Mercs IV already happened it was a story didn't you read it? Also aside from that minor detail is that you have the charisma of a rock and if previous Mercenaries renditions proved anything it is that Mercs needs a lot of pre-planning to go along with strong leadership ability to withstand the storm that such a highly competitive environment inevitably will become.

Mercs was fun, and then quite suddenly it wasn't. Asking people who might not even really know what Mercs was is certainly not the answer.I like to think some people already have most of the answers and it is just a matter of doing things right. I don't know what inspired you to believe that you were even halfway capable of leading any sort of effort to do anything with Mercs but I am going to be the one to be kind and bluntly ask you to stop. Nothing you do would be to the benefit of either a future project or its future participants.

You sent me a Private Message and the reason you didn't get a response is because I was honestly quite taken aback. This topic is like a rude slap to the face that brings me back down after being taken aback, I suppose. If anyone is to make this topic there is a long list of people I would think it should be before you. The questions you ask, even if answered, would not do anything to actually help any future project, and I don't know if you consulted with someone about this or if you got bored one day but really this is not the type of problem solving that the situation calls for, as I said earlier.

So let's just move on.
