It seems to be the match where Christian won the WHC via DQ. There's a question on whether The Man Championship should have changed hands. I say yes, but the guy who has Orton as the current champ has him retaining via DQ. Off the top of my head, Orton probably won the title back from Christian anyway.

Who does RL5 have as the current champ?

Here's our lineage:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AkhFovxvzixkdElpWjJyQ0JiaVYwTGRtdmdYWjFHalE

The disparity comes from not just automatically making the Christian/Del Rio winner for the vacant WHC the new Man Champion. The guys on PWB did.

For the record I don't necessarily approve of this way either, but the way I would determine it still leads to Sheamus so moving forward I'm on the same page as RL5.

The way I would handle Edge's retirement as The Man would be to revert the title back to its most recent holder, The Miz, unless he lost to someone else in-between losing the Man Championship to Edge and Edge's retirement, but thankfully he did not.

It still ends up on Cena by MitB (thanks to Cena beating Miz at Over the Limit 2011 IIRC).

I think it's a little suspicious myself, but arbitrarily linking it to the WHC for no good reason is just as suspicious IMO.

The Miz was The Man. Edge defeated him to become The Man, but no one else could beat Miz 1-on-1 until after Edge retired, meaning that Miz was still #2 in The Man Rankings. Hence Miz should be the new Man once the old Man no longer is able to wrestle.

I don't think you're really linking it to the WHC though. Wasn't the Edge/Del Rio ladder match made before Edge retired and Christian replaced him? I'd say you either go with Christian taking Edge's place or just retire the title, since you do have to "beat the man" after all.

Yeah I'd say the title, by definition, retired with Edge.

To carry it onward, I think RL5 mightve done a reasonable thing and just made the next prominent man the Man champ, but i think it needs t be its own separate lineage if you do it that way. And even the Flair was the Man for decades and put it on the line against Michaels-- nothing similar happened with Cena- the title was imposed upon him by CM Punk and it was never brought up again.

When RL5 put it on Cena, he essentially linked it to the WWE Title, but then when WWE Champion ADR lost a 1-on-1 to Big Show on Raw, Show took the Man Championship over to SD and eventually linked it up with the WHC.

The PWB Man Championship was linked with the WHC to move forward after Edge's retirement, but then when Randy lost a 1-on-1 to Cody before losing the WHC to Mark Henry, it skipped over that whole process and has since basically revolved around Randy Orton.

They gave him practically nothing to work with in WWE and he has made some great strides in TNA. I'd say his stock is decent, but it is going to come down to how bad TNA wants him. I dont see WWE throwing mad money. It will end up being if Matt feels TNA is giving him the money he has earned, and if not he will go to WWE to raise his stock even higher even if it may not be as much.

Having not taken a look, I'm pretty sure those are the people who think Christian should have been The Man Champion just because he won Edge's vacant WHC (and secretly, in their hearts, because they love Christian and think it's fitting that he become The next Man after Edge). Even though Christian clearly didn't beat a Man. But that's at least better than the "The Man Championship shouldn't exist anymore" camp.

I don't follow that lineage, but it crossed over Randy Orton like seven times last I checked, so it would not surprise me if it's still on him.

This would be perfect, actually, and I was hoping we'd get this match soon for this very reason.

I actually don't mind the Christian/Del Rio idea so much when I just consider that they're just treating The Man Championship like a normal championship by doing it that way and not arbitrarily tossing it on Christian, but I still think it's a step below Jakyl's lineage and my lineage just because it kind of diminishes the importance of the title in my eyes.

Cena's is better for the definition of "the man" imo. Because Cena is - or was at the time - most definitely the man. Christian beating ADR in a ladder match and being declared the man vs. Cena being declared the man officially by the #1 heel in the company (...well), after 6 years of being the man

I prefer the Cena route here

That's not how I see it at all. What I'm doing is entirely consistent with The Man Championship's history. It started when the top dog declared himself The Man, so I think when it's vacant, it should only continue when the new top dog is called The Man.
