...on Wikipedia are indirectly insulting people?

It can't be just me

"An IP address is a set of rules for sending information over the Internet. Each person has at least one IP address, just like a person would have a postal address!"

"The Sun is the star at the centre of the Solar System. It is seen in the sky and gives light to the Earth. When the Sun is in the sky, it is day! When the Sun is not in the sky it is night. The Sun The planets, including Earth, go around it."

What's insulting? Articles are written assuming the reader knows nothing about the subject.

Eh, sort of. I mean, they're officially intended "...for people whose first language is not English." But stuff like that postal address joke seems more like it's intended for people with some sort of learning disorder. Honestly, I could've sworn that as of like, 3-4 years ago, Simple English Wikipedia WAS intended for people with learning disorders. >_>

The exclamation points are unnecessary, those are what give it that sense of being insulting or belittling.

The point of Simple English is that the reader doesn't have to get bogged down by not knowing the language. The reader is not an idiot, which those articles seem to be missing. Simple English is a good thing that smart people can make use of (I could probably go for a Simple Spanish or Simple Chinese wiki, for instance) but those are missing the point.
