I found Kanon's death in Ep 1 pretty scary though, mostly because I had no clue about it, and I was expecting straight mystery when it went vaguely possibly supernatural and I was just freaked.

The one moment that's worse though.

Ep 7 Tea Party.

Virgiliaface is definitely up there. But I've always been partial to in Ep1 when Natsuhi, Battler, and the rest turn around to find a letter from Beatrice in Kinzo's study that wasn't there a second ago. Though I guess that's less scary and more HOLY S*** SO TENSE.

Oh god... it took me a few moments to realize what you were talking about, but my stomach just fell remembering it. The intensity of that scene.

Oh man, and what about the first tea party? The kids are just so happy to be alive and joking around with Beatrice when Battler comes to his senses and everyone just... dissolves. *shudder*

It's a quiet moment, without all the fanfare of most of the kills or horrors or magicks, but that might be why it resonates so much.

My heart literally skipped a beat on that first note of Ridicule.

That **** was by far the most intense and scary part of the series.

Nothing all that scary, though there were plenty of chilling moments.

Tea Party of Episode 7 of course.

Also Episode 6 when we find out Erika chopped off everyone's head.

There are probably a few other moments I can't think of right now.

Well, it's not so much that they were scary as much as they startled me because I totally wasn't expecting them at all.

Honestly, for me? There's a bit somewhere in Ep2 early on where everything is still fine and Battler loses his train of thought for a second and then THUNDERCLAPAHAHA.WAVBEATO

I jumped about a foot.

Oh god damn it I remember that happening to me also.

In Episode 3 when everyone is talking about how they wish the good times would last forever then AHAHAHAHA. DIdn't help that speakers were on the high end of volume also.

It wasn't that Virgilia literally opened her eyes that was scary. It was the moment. It was her persona til then, the story til then, and the slow realization of just what was happening that pretty much clicked in right when or not long before she did a Virgiliaface and you wanted to just reach in pull Battler back from what he was getting into.

It was pure, "The killer's in there! Don't go in there! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! YOU FOOL!"

EDIT: Kinzoface though... yeah, that's almost purely cosmetic. But, his eyes are just popping out of his skull.... *shudder*

ahaha.wav in the first few episodes was pretty creepy since I played at night and headphones. More of the mood than anything though.

kinzoface just totally fits the psychotic nature he had. far as i'm concerned that was sheer brilliance and just THIS IS A MAN kind of moment. if he were to punch out a bear with that face i wouldn't be surprised in the least.

virgilia for me pretty much was the face there. figuring out something's wrong happened quick - but when she did that face yeah, heart skipped a beat with a giant "...oh sh-- RUN MOTHERF***ER, RUN! feel.

but half of that was due to the terror of seeing her face twist that way. if you don't want kids trick or treating, just put that on your door. they will give you candy.

Even with everyone telling me point blank what was happening after Episode 6, it still didn't register until Wright wanted to talk to them both and Shannon nearly went BSOD.

It's definitely not a speculation I'd ever, EVER, adhere to without the Chiru episodes. It's just plain silly. Even if it actually works out completely looking back knowing what we know now. But still, so silly.

Even if it's hinted at quite a lot of times, just hints that aren't apparent until you can even wrap your head around something as crazy as that happening.. This always gets me in retrospect:
