Damn, could the article writer be more stereotypical?

XFD This guy definitely needs to change his description if he wants to be taken seriously as a journalist.

There was a signature here. It's gone now. Your face is bees.
it's not different. They've done it with Mass Effect 3 and probably other games in the past. Maybe it's a new initiative for FIFA and the website is extending this to other titles in order to get hits

an estimated 3,920,000 pirated copies, resulting in approximately $235,200,000 of lost income. Of course, its difficult to aggregate what percentage of pirates are actual lost customers, but when youre losing $235 million dollars on a game from piracy, it doesnt really matter anymore. The fact of the matter is that, even if only 10% of pirates were actual lost customers, then youre still losing a painful $23 million due to piracy.

Its an insinuation that they built this structure to prevent piracy but now they're fronting always online to the end user with these cross platform shenanigans.

consumers don't care when they're getting abused, if that were the case hollywood, the members of the RIAA, activision, comcast...none of these companies would be around. if anything giving your customers a good backhand across the face every now and then is healthy for your financial goals

It's really freaking sad.
It's like nobody got even a little bit of fight in them anymore.
what makes me sad about Capcom is that I like their games but hate their business practices
so every time a new game comes out that I'm interested in I gotta be like "man should I buy this even though I'm supporting something kind of offensive"
Yeah, Capcom makes really fun games, or at least they used to. They still make pretty solid games, but I don't even buy anything from them anymore because of how shady they are.

now now. some pirates actually buy the game they like.
not necessarily at full price mind you, but there was little reason why, if you liked crysis 2, you wouldn't have gotten it for $5 or $10 by now. unless you don't like the drm in it, in which case yeah you weren't buying it.

i wouldn't be. it's not that they'd buy it at $50 or $60 - those would probably be closer to that 1% you're after - but with the various steam and amazon sales it's easy to find games drop in price quickly and hard. gotta find the right price point with everyone, and if they like the product, you'll eventually find it. it's not like there's some sort of magical potion that makes pirates unable to support something they like, they just don't agree with either a) the practices (which time MAY fix but if it doesn't then they won't buy it regardless) or b) the price (which time *will* fix on a majority of games). convinience + money = piracy's base, with the second being the one most would care about (though always online drm might be that turning point, which this is about, so....).
you don't need free or some crazy low price necessarily to start the shift, just people going "this is worth __" and... that's it. judging by amazon's open success with how digital downloads have been to them, i'd sooner bet that most of the people who buy the sales are those who also pirated it earlier that fit in the B camp. >__>;
