The Greatest League on Earth is about to wrap up another awesome run, as the most highly anticipated postseason in recent memory (at least IMO) is set to start this Saturday. Teams still have 2-3 more games and the playoffs aren't totally finalized yet, but I feel like getting a head start on reflecting upon the year. The following is the outline for the different topics I want to discuss, but if there is anything else you all want me to talk about then please let me know!

1. The Lockout
2. Dwight Howard and Other Various Divas
3. Fountain of Youth: Spurs, Celtics, and One Kobe Bryant
4. THE KNICKS
5. The Next Generation
6. Awards
7. Postseason Prediction and Analysis

Hope all you NBA fans will join me in the discussion and again feel free to bring up any topic you feel is relevant!

THE LOCKOUT

This topic came damn close to never happening. For NBA fans worldwide the summer of 2011 was one of the most nerve-wrecking times that we have ever had. The league was fresh off an incredibly exciting season and was continuing to skyrocket in popularity. Not since the Jordan days do I remember so many people actually caring about basketball. It was all about to disappear, however, as virtually every expert and insider and talking head was predicting doom for the 2011-2012 season. Even worse, many of them were claiming that the next TWO seasons were in jeopardy, meaning no NBA until tthe 2013-2014 season. I watched the negotiations and the drama with an ever increasing resignation to the fact that I was gonna be without my favorite sport for a long time. I was trying to cope with the fact that I was going to have to spend my late spring evenings actually watching baseball. I wasn't ready for it, but I didn't have a choice.

Then it happened. At 2am on some summer night, I got a text that I assumed would either be a booty call or a desperate drunk friend needing a ride. It was neither. It was the best news that I have ever gotten. The NBA was f***ing back. 66 games and in time for the Christmas orgy of good ones. The following day I was just....happy... I was just so purely glad that my favorite sport was gonna be around, and it just made me appreciate s*** like that that I usually take for granted.

The impact of the shortened season has been analyzed to hell and back. Some of the doomsaying regarding it came true, some of it did not. For instance, there has been a significant impact on scoring and defense, as lack of practice has led to an assload of chemistry and cohesion issues. It hasn't been a major detriment to the league or anything, but those who closely follow the stats have certainly noticed the toll the season has taken.

Many experts also predicted an increase in injuries due to higher levels of strain with lesser time for rest. The data says that injuries haven't been much of an issue, however. There have been a lot of high profile injuries, but overall it doesn't look like the lockout has caused any sort of injury plague this year. This is a great article regarding the effects of the compressed schedule http://www.foxsportsarizona.com/04/22/12/Analyzing-the-effects-of-a-lockout-seaso/landing_suns.html?blockID=714668&feedID=3702

It's good to have basketball back, and even though this season flew by it has definitely been one of the most dramatic and engrossing ones in recent memory. Bring on the playoffs, baby!

D12 and his Diva Friends
Once the lockout ended, the attention of the sports media world immediately turned to Dwight Howard. We all knew this was gonna be a repeat of the Carmelo situation from last year, but not many people thought it would become infinitely more ridiculous and pathetic. Dwight has always been one of my favorite players, and regardless of what a bitter Shaq says he is the best big man in the league.

“The Dwightmare”, however, was/continues to be an image killing event. I’m going to describe this using a relationship analogy, which works great because Dwight proved that he was nothing more than a 16 year old girl with this drama. He is like a crazy girl you dated who gets super pissed at you for something trivial like you saying hi to another girl. She stops talking to you and acts like a complete insane b**** because of it. You eventually tell her that it is over and for her to leave, and when that happens she cries and begs for you to take her back and that she promises to make it better. As soon as you forgive her, she decides to cheat on you as revenge for you saying hi to that girl at the beginning. That is Dwight.

Then we got Lamar Odom…who has gone from sixth man of the year to arguably the biggest joke in the NBA. I have never seen a more insecure athlete in my life than this dude right here. People are put in trade packages all the time. People who have been an important part of a team for a long time are put in trade packages all the time. People who normally would never be traded are put in trade packages when a MEGA SUPERSTAR like CP3 hits the market all the time. Lamar Odom though….he took this as a personal insult. To go back to crazy girls you have dated analogies, Lamar is the girl who breaks up with you because you did not respond to her “good morning” text within 30 seconds. He was so emotionally devastated that his mental state apparently never recovered and eventually just could not play anymore for Dallas. He is the definition of a beta male, and he deserves the ugly Kardashian.

Last but not least we got that man King James. He has had an incredible season, and I can’t talk too badly of him, but I am telling you that All Star game ending is an omen. Kobe screaming at him to take the shot….only for him to CHOOSE TO INBOUND THE BALL… was an incredibly telling moment of this NBA generation and don’t be surprised if this happens again in the playoffs. Until you prove me wrong, Lebron, you are on the Diva List with D12 and Lamar.

Can you give me footage of this or describe it better? Wouldn't Kobe and LeBron be on opposing teams?

All star game bro. Kobe and Lebron were havng a duel that was as as epic as it can get in an exhibition game. East were down in the final seconds when kobe was demanding that lebron shoot it, yelling in his face to do it, almost like pleading as an NBA fan saying "please make yourself great for once"...but LBJ decide to INBOUND the ball and d-wade eventually ended up bricking the tying shot.

it was an exhibition game, but it was some real s*** when it came to showing who lebron really is deep down

Don't forget Carmelo's legendary "smh" after the game ended. As flawed as he is, at least we know that our team has a leader who isn't afraid to lead in the clutch like Queen James.

Best part was everyone on both teams basically went up to Lebron and had this look of

on their faces, and Lebron knew that he messed up.
