Yeah, there. I have seen SO MANY videos the past week saying (dur, WTF?) and I am about to murder people. For the love of god, if you were not expecting this guy, you fail at life, the game throws it in your face for 2 disks. Thank you, rant over.
It is fought as the final boss, appearing in the area Hill of Despair and represents death itself. Necron's ultimate goal is to reduce everything to nothingness. Its appearance in the game is somewhat of a mystery, as it arrives unexpectedly and its character is never fully explained.

From: shadosneko | #006 I'm thinking I've just been spoiled to a game I haven't played.
Necron's appearance is, as far as the story goes, ridiculously random, even though it does make sense in hindsight. The idea of seeing him coming beforehand from foreshadowing on a first play-through is fairly absurd. It's not really a big spoiler, because before that he had no named direct influence on the story.
MWC did not see Necron coming all along, and he's lying about it to try and be smug because he is a total tool, as usual.
well yeah i wanted to gag when i saw the concept art of some of the characters i was already accustomed to, but if they had been that way from start to finish it could be great
haven't looked at a whole lot of this guy's stuff, though.
From: Wedge Antilles | #022 Ok, someone list these moments of foreshadowing because I forget them.
Well in Disc 1, Brahne says "I hope we don't have to use that..." when referring to methods in which to retrieve Dagger.
Sometime in Disc 2, Zidane says "I can feel him calling to me...N..."
In Terra, it is revealed that Garland serves a higher master when he is seen talking to himself on his thone. (Some speculate this to be Chaos, a la FFI, as Necron is the Japanese name for Chaos in the original game).
FFIX was an amazing RPG and a great send off for RPGs Golden Age. It had a fantastic cast(Quina God Tier), and a lovable story that even the most cynical gamer couldn't help but enjoy.
who cares about its final boss..like...at all.

I'm pretty sure Semi and HGR don't enjoy FFIX, and they're among the most cynical gamers I know!
(Also LOL Quina)

"I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now."
I think I finally figured out why too. I think I managed to crystalize why I'm not big on it last night when I was talking about it with Sytha yesterday.
The problem with the game is that almost every time you first visit a town nothing significant happens there. The big thing happens later. The draw of the first time through a town is exploring the town for the most part. So the result (for me) is none of the locations feel all that significant or memorable. The first impression is the most important one, they say. This also causes me to blend the story events together to some extent cause you always come back to cities for the important stuff so you can't tie things to locations (and hence I can't sequence them) as easily.
FFIX is the only FF game I can't really recite from beginning to end-- just has a hard time being memorable.
(There's also too much minigame collectable stuff to collect even for a FF game and the combat system might be the slowest of a FF game but these are different issues I could've pointed out earlier)
So yeah your masterpiece is unmemorable how do you feel about that.

Well not just towns. Locations in general. It's just really hard to sequence any of them cause hardly any of them are introduced to you with fanfare. Might partially be poor dungeon design too.

Grandia was an absolute disaster. Characters and plot were a trainwreck. Justin and Sue, in particular, are really high up my list of characters I would like to personally drown. The battle system had some neat things going for it, but not nearly enough to redeem that mess.
