I know I'm a weird dude, but I don't see much of a difference between going with friends and going alone. None of my friends in this city like rock music (I'm being intentionally broad here.. they'll pretty much only go to hip-hop or electronic shows) so I've went to a few shows by myself. I enjoy them just as much as shows I go to with friends, and the only downside is that you don't have anyone to talk to about the performance as it ends. It's easy enough to just talk to the people next to you if you're on the floor while the band is playing if you need to be social and people are generally quite friendly due to the fact that you enjoy the same band.
...and I guess it doesn't hurt if you're the only black guy in the venue as well.
Once, and it wasn't that great. Then again, I was in a huge arena, up in the nosebleeds, so it wasn't like I could move around. (It was also Weird Al, which is not exactly a standard concert.)

that's what I'm thinking. I just associate shows with socializing, because I've only ever gone to them with friends. So if I go to this thing alone, I'm going to try to meet some strangers there, and hopefully even be able to chill with them at a bar or something afterwards

That sounds terrible, friends would have improved.
But it depends on a lot of things, and I think you should try it.
I personally think small venue concerts are the best, alone or not.
Also, what is the concert?

A few times. Two were smaller, general admittance shows where I could just jump into the mosh/dance pit and not care. The third was a small but sit-down folk show, and I loved the group so much (Gillian Welch) that I really couldn't give a s*** that I was alone.
I wouldn't want to go to some stadium show alone, though. That sounds awful.
