THAT'S RIGHT. I got the HD collection. Of course I have played 3 and 4. So now I shall play number 1 for the first time. And as I said, I will attempt 2. I'm already well aware that it sucks, no need to tell me again.
Uglyface2 posted... I never understood the attraction to the DMC series. I played the first one, but just didn't get it.
I dislike most gaming series (unfortunately) but I definitely get why many of them are popular, DMC included. Stylized violence, in this case. And heaping helpings of cheese.
From: ShadowHalo17 | #027 Oh my f***ing f*** you Beowulf. I do not remember having this amount of trouble with this bastard before.
How the f*** are you supposed to dodge his stupid ass light spears thing?
Charge at him when you see him getting ready to shoot them. Stinger Stinger Stinger. Also, don't play drunk. Actually that's a lie, I beat DMC3 on DMD for the first time when I was drunk.

Yessir. I had been stuck at Vergil 3 for a couple days. Got drunk one night, had some fun, came back and beat it while still quite soused. Had some friends watching me, and it was one of my more triumphant drunken experiences, as dorky as that is.

Now could you possibly tell me what exactly counts toward leveling up the styles? Like how long would it take of grinding an easier mission to max out a style?
I can't recall exactly, it's been a long time. I definitely remember grinding the first and second levels to upgrade my styles, but I couldn't tell you how long that takes.

Man, it's gonna take a long ass time to level up all the styles. Although I can just do it the old fashioned way and play through the game multiple times on each style. Should be doable... I hope.
I really need to improve though. My skill at this game is pretty bad. Sadly I don't see how I could possibly improve.

From: shadosneko | #021 man, if you quit dmc1, then you'll probably only play up until the infected tanks
Oh god those things were awful. Not even fun or interactive, just giant bags of endless hitpoints for you to chip away forever.
Also how could Phantom be the "I must quit DMC1 now" moment for you, he's like the definitive "this is how you actually play a Devil May Cry game" boss, he's brutal when you're new but once you're not he's easy, you've played DMC3 so you should be easily able to handle him!

His armor is annoying and his fireball attack is a b****. I'll defeat him later. Right no I'm on Vergil 2 and I keep getting him don to like a quarter health and he'll catch me with one of his dimensional attacks. I would be mad but this fight is actually fun so I'm not discouraged now. I will be if I get killed a few more times.

DMC1 is awesome as hell. However if you're playing on Normal (which you should, easy is too easy) you'll be forced to play Hard on your next cycle. That's when the bosses (particularly Nightmare 3) truly starts kicking your ass.
And DMC2 isn't as bad as people make it sound to be. Most people make it seem almost as horrible as Superman 64 which it's not. Its bad when compared to the rest of the DMC series. Still a 6.5 game I'd say.
Regardless, I'm not quitting. I'll get back to it. I just wanted to play DMC3.
And I did play the first mission of DMC2 and didn't hate it. It wasn't impressive, but I have incredibly low standards of course. And it was just the first mission. So I'll continue with it and see how long I can bear. Maybe, maybe, I'll actually like it a little bit. Enough to finish. I doubt it. Highly. Because my patience is very, very low. But we'll see.

I don't know what Capcom was thinking anyways it goes like this:
If you pick easy on your first play through you'll be struck on the easy mode for endless cycles. Meaning you can't choose any other difficulty as long as you're on the same file. That's the trade-off for making a relatively challenging game very easy.
If you continue playing on Normal and beat the game. You'll be forced to start on Hard Mode if you save at the end of the game. Sucks right? ...BUT you carry over EVERYTHING from your previous file which makes Hard mode considerably more bearable and even then some boss fights will STILL kick your ass countless times. However if you finished DMD on DMC3 then DMC1 Hard mode won't be a problem. But then again DMC1 Hard is much harder then DMC3 Hard mainly because of the limits in using health items. Good luck.
And I did play the first mission of DMC2 and didn't hate it. It wasn't impressive, but I have incredibly low standards of course
Your opinion for the rest of the game will pretty much be the same or even lower. The game stays at this pace throughout the game. DMC2 is an incredibly mediocre game and a very easy one at that too. Trust me the DMD or LMD mode here will probably make you laugh.
That doesn't give me any hope. Makes me want to just quit now and forever.
Learn how to dodge and then attack. The Golden rule of DMC is to A&A (Avoid and Attack). There's also a method to farming orbs early on which can make the game A LOT easier. And yes like TheRealTruth mentioned the best way to damage enemies efficiently is to unleash Inferno with Ifrit. Don't spam though or you'll be in for a very rude beat down. Play smart and safe.
Normal mode isn't that difficult once you start getting the hang of the game mechanics. Just be prepared for the challenge and DON'T take this game lightly and you should be fine. Hard mode however can be unmerciful to many beginners of the DMC genre. The camera somehow always gets used to the enemy's advantage. I'm glad I'm done playing DMD on DMC1, that's one of my most insane accomplishments and If I had to do it all over again I probably can't and ever will.
Are you actually forced to play on Hard? Yes you are. On your next play through you have to beat the game on hard and then you can play Normal, Hard or DMD on the 3rd cycle.
