I thought you were playing DMC1 and having trouble in one of the fights against Angelo. And I'm surprised you weren't spoiled with that already because a LOT of people on the DMC boards tend to. Anyways I'll delete previous post to avoid any spoilers for people looking at this topic.

What style are you using against him?

A couple tips:

When he super devil triggers, you have to attack him. Doing so takes him out of super devil trigger way faster, which is all but required given how quickly his health regenerates in that form. I typically devil trigger as well when he's super devil triggered and it looks like I have an opening to get a few hits in. It honestly doesn't take much.

When he does that teleport-downward slash over and over again, you don't need to do anything fancy to dodge them. Just run and he'll never connect.

When he throws his sword at you, don't try to dodge it, because it will just follow you. Shoot it away with Ebony & Ivory.

When he does the air slash orb thing while in super devil trigger, there's no great way to consistently dodge them. Just like with Beowulf's holy feather attack, you gotta charge him and attack back at him to stop it.

I've only managed to get to his super crazy devil trigger mode once. Since then I've pretty much been getting killed within minutes. I don't understand why. I'm using level 3 Trickster. And I guess the teleport thing doesn't really help against him. I don't know what to do though, I keep getting owned. I can't ever read his attacks correctly.

I don't remember sucking this much the first time I played.

Well he only has two or three physical combos, and you just need to learn how to discern which one he's doing, and how you can fully dodge each one. It's entirely possible with Trickster.

I think it's the teleport move that messes me up. In normal battles it's awesome, but I keep appearing above his head at the wrong times, but I'm trying to dash to the left or right and instead I teleport to him.

I also don't know how to discern which attacks he's about to use because they all begin similarly and he's too fast.

Vergil 3 tactics (As far as I remember)

Keep shooting him with Ebony and Ivory while you're not slashing him (miniscule damage but trust me it piles up and somehow he devil triggers less). Stinger him to close the distance and switch to either Beowulf or Cerberus and combo him until he devil triggers. When he DTs you should DT as well and keep pounding on him. When his DT wears off still keep pounding until he retreats. Use Trickster class to dash and close the distance. Stinger. Switch. Beowulf. Combo him to oblivion.

If you're still having trouble. Buy a ton of Vital Star L, that way you're virtually invincible.

How do you increase your health bar and your Devil Trigger... energy orb things? And I know about the Devil Trigger Explosion, is that a special explosion you can only do a certain way, or is it automatic every time you activate DT?

Blue orbs for health, purple orbs for devil trigger. I'm sure you've found a few blue orb fragments floating around in the levels. You can go back to find more, or just purchase some full blue orbs at the shop. I think you also get blue orb fragments for completing secret missions. Purple orbs you just straight up purchase in the store.

DT Explosion is charged by holding the DT button. It can only be done when you have more than the initial three DT orbs, and only orbs beyond those three can be expended for it. When they are charging, you should see the orbs pulsing. You lose the charge in those orbs immediately upon release, but it can do some decent damage. Not as good as just laying into Vergil with full DT, but if you find that you aren't able to string together lengthy combos against him, it's a good way to deal quick and significant damage.

Well I wasn't planning on grinding for it. I was just wondering because I watch some SS playthroughs where they abuse DTE to get instant Style and kill all enemies around them.

Yeah DTE is better for lots of weaker enemies because it's AoE. What's your health at? Are you on the second bar?

I finally beat Vergil and the game. I used like 2 big health stars and 3 small ones. But whatever! I win!

AUGH. I got 98 enemies in the end credits. So close.

Oh well... lol I think I f***ed up. I started a new game with Vergil and I guess I saved over the same file as my Dante playthough.

Which I assume everything I did as Dante is now deleted.

Saved over Sora's data when I started with Riku.

Suffice to say I quit right there.

The 100th enemy is a Hell Vanguard so if you didn't even have it spawn you weren't that close tbh.

I killed 98 enemies, it showed the count. If I know anything about math, that's pretty close to 100.

And yes of course the Vanguard spawned.

^ Kalina Ann(The Bazooka) is your friend here. Just spam the bazooka and your count will exceed 100 in no time. Even the Hell Vanguard is weak towards the bazooka.
