The only people that should be driving cars are those that can afford it. If you have to consider the price of gas so significantly in your budget that it seriously affects your ability to get actual necessities, then you probably should not be owning a car.
Don't try living beyond your means and then go whine to the government later that you can't afford anything.

maybe don't be born in africa next life
you think people would have learned by now that lion king aside, africa isn't full of laughs
There are many benefits to urbanization. Living in a populated area close to work and school will save you a lot of money on gas. If they feel like they are spending too much on gas, they should try to live closer to where they work and drive less.

So they don't have enough money for gas, but they have enough money to move?

You people make fun of me, but you should realize that cars are luxuries.
I am sick of people comparing gas to food. Food is a necessity. Gas is something for a machine that didn't exist 200 years ago. I'm pretty sure that the Romans did perfectly fine with food and no gas.

if we put more money into public transportation as a country, we would be less dependent on gas, as public transportation is more efficient per person.

Public transportation is fine. People are just too lazy to use it, so they buy expensive cars and "expensive" gas and cry about it.

Not to mention being much more eco-friendly and the streets wouldn't be filled with parked cars. Cars should be an even bigger luxury than they are now.
You will never get hired anywhere without a car. It's a need.
Not sure if serious.
I've held several jobs, including one which requires me to get to anywhere in my city within an hour's notice, and do so without a car just fine. Of course, I have the benefit of living somewhere with non-fail public transportation for that last one... but most jobs just require you to show up at one place each day, and as long as you can get there by some means I don't think employers are going to care what transportation you use. There are exceptions such as delivery jobs which want you to use your own car, of course, but they're just that: exceptions.
Anyone complaining about gas prices may be the most hilariously entitled thing ever. Next time you drive, say, ten miles, think about how much money you (or the driver) spent on this. You probably cover that distance in 15 minutes, when by foot it would take you closer to 4 hours. And the gas used to cover this probably cost somewhere around a dollar. You just spent one measly dollar to save yourself nearly four hours of time. That's insane. It's a steal.
Even in places where gas is twice as expensive, it's still a steal. In 20 years when gas will cost three to four times at much, it will still be one.
The other reason people complaining about gas prices pisses me off is it shows a basic lack of understanding about our oil resources, which are slowly but surely being depleted. The rarer a resource gets, the more it's going to cost. So gasoline is going to, on average, continue to rise at a rate faster than that of inflation as long as it's in high demand. This is basic economics and I don't understand why it's so difficult for many people to accept.
