Carrey was reportedly unhappy with the results of Ace Ventura 2 and was very reluctant to appear in many sequels since, compared to other actors of his stature, you'll notice that he does tend to generally avoid em.

I gotta say, these random sequels are a fun trend. Anchorman 2 (hell yes), this, ha the rumor/news of a Twins sequel, they're always talking about Bill & Ted 3 and Ghostbusters 3 etc, brrring em onnn.
