First of all, I turned 25 in November.

Second, these posts will be quite a bit more lighthearted than TheRock's since I don't hate myself.

Third, some will be chosen because of their impact on my life but most will be chosen because they were just so stupid.

Fourth, please enjoy.

Baten Kaitos, why have you forsaken me?

I remember this one well.

I was REALLY getting into this game and I had been playing it for about 7 hours that day already. Then 6 PM rolled around and I realized I was supposed to have left for work 15 minutes ago. It wasn't a big deal since I worked tickets at a small movie theater but I did need to leave immediately.

I couldn't just turn it off and lose like an hour's worth of playing so I turned my TV off, left my GCN on and went to work. The whole time I was working, I was thinking "oh man, can't wait to get home and pound that boss's butthole."

So at 10 PM I ran out of the theater and speeded home. I burst in the door and yelled "BATEN KAITOS TIME, B****ES!" My roommates were both on the couch, watching me as I knelt down, pressed the power button on my tv and then without thinking...I pressed the power button on my GCN.

I get it pressed all the way down when I realize what I've done. I look to my roommate, who already knew what was happening and is stifling laughter, and plead, "help."

"It's done. Accept it," he says.

I pleaded with him to keep it pressed down while I beat the boss quick and save but I know it's hopeless.

I hang my head, let the button go, watch my GCN turn off, and walk quietly to my room.

I didn't play Baten Kaitos again for a month or so and I've never gotten over this mistake.

Maybe I never will.

HOT POCKETS

Ok, pretty much everyone knows that nothing good can come from eating a Hot Pocket.

But when I was in high school, I made the mistake of eating them all the time. Once, however, it led me to an even greater mistake that I consider the dumbest choice I've ever made.

It was a cheeseburger Hot Pocket which, in my experience, can get hotter than the sun.

I was laying on my stomach on the couch, watching the Daily Show. The Hot Pocket was in my right hand and I was laying on my left arm.

I took a big bite and some of the sauce fell out of the bottom into my right palm. In my life, I have broken my elbow, both bones in my wrist, torn my labrum (another story) and had the s*** kicked out of me in a cage match, and none of those things compared to the pain that this lava sauce caused me.

I absolutely lost my mind.

I dropped the Hot Pocket to the floor instantly and since I was laying awkwardly with only one arm free, I thought I only had one choice: wipe hand on my face to relieve my hand.

I was somehow surprised when that choice caused my face immense pain. And I was instantly disappointed in myself.

Still in a great deal of pain and now shame, I decided to wipe it back on to my hand and then onto the floor before going and getting a towel to clean up the mess.

Keep in mind, this all happened in a split second and there was no lasting damage so all in all, it didn't really matter.

But to this day, I'll never know how I made a decision as dumb as wiping something that was too hot for my hand onto my face.

Luckily, I was alone when it happened but it makes me think that maybe I'm the dumbest person who ever lived.

Winning an arm wrestling match...easily

My roommate and I have a long history of arm wrestling matches. We have ever since we became best friends in 8th grade.

He is slightly stronger than me in most ways but for some reason, he simply can't beat me in arm wrestling.

I never let him forget it either. Whenever he gets a little cocky, I challenge him and he always accepts, thinking this could be his day. Well, the last time we arm wrestled...it certainly wasn't my day.

He was making fun of me for getting my ass kicked in my cage match a few weeks earlier. I wasn't actually getting mad but I said "I CAN STILL KICK YOUR ASS."

My friend's older brother (at the time, our other roommate) told him he should arm wrestle me since it had been a while and maybe he could beat me now. So we laid down on the kitchen floor (we do it this way so that it's almost impossible to cheat) and started our match.

Right away, I started just destroying him. I slowed down, all three of us laughing, and asked him if he was seriously trying. He said that he was so I decided to readjust and go in for the kill. As I shifted and took most of my weight off my left arm, shifting a lot of it to my right shoulder, we heard something that sounded like a car driving slowly on gravel.

I stopped laughing instantly, slammed his arm down, and jumped to my feet.

"Welp, there goes that arm," I told them as I stared at my limp, borderline useless arm. They insisted it couldn't be that bad and since I had no health insurance, I pretended to believe them.

Two months later, when my arm has pretty much become a noodle, I bought some coverage and went to get it checked out.

~345 degree tear of my labrum. I got surgery a few weeks later (and $20,000 in bills later) and my arm has never been more than 75% of what it once was.

Luckily, the insurance cover liked 90% of it so I didn't go bankrupt. But it killed my (admittedly, lackluster) MMA career.

On the bright side, when I got it out of the immobilizer, I picked up tennis to rehab it since I couldn't afford physical therapy. I had been watching tennis a lot and now I play it even more and have gotten damn good.

But with my right arm at full health, I could be so much better. Never thought that winning an easy arm wrestling match would cost me so much.

PS - I got so tired of telling the arm wrestling story when asked what happened, I came up with a fake.

I said I was in for a routine checkup and the doctor noticed my right arm was getting too powerful so he went in and surgically removed some of it.

Much more fun.

Did I seriously just say "no"?

This one is simple, yet completely inexplicable.

Seventh grade. A sparkly, liquid-filled bracelet fad was sweeping the school and I was wearing one given to me by one of my friends who had like 12 of them.

I was sitting next to this girl I liked. We had lab tables, only two people to a table and she always sat next to me so I thought maybe she liked me too.

During class, the two of us talked the whole time and when the bell rang, we started walking to lunch together. As we're walking, she says "can I wear your bracelet?"

Inside, I was like "yeessssss" but in response, I said "no." I have no clue why but I suspect mind control.

She was like "...okay" and we went our separate ways.

After that, she didn't sit by me.

Now, I'm not great at striking up a conversation with a girl but once it's going I do exceptionally well. This was literally the first and last time I feel like I completely messed up when talking to a girl.

It will always haunt me because it would have been so easy to avoid.

Dating my martial arts instructor's daughter

I know what you're thinking. How could anything go wrong here? Spoilers: lots of ways.

Ok this one is going to be long. In college, I studied martial arts instead of playing soccer (which, for a short time I regretted but eventually I was very glad I did). It was me, my best friend, his older brother, our instructor's daughter (I'm gonna call her Phoebe), and her younger brother. There were plenty of other students but we were the main ones and the only ones being prepped for the national test (about a four year program) to become an instructor.

We were at this martial arts school 4-5 days a week for 2-4 hours a day (more on weekends). It was a pretty intense training regimen and we all became great friends. My current girlfriend wasn't into martial arts at all and she literally had a nervous breakdown because she thought I was cheating on her with Phoebe (never was, not even flirting or anything). So, I had to let her go.

Fast forward a year later and I got to a party with this girl and she ends up telling me she has had a huge crush on me for over a year. Now, in my heart, I knew what the right decision was but I was just like "she's cool and I find her very attractive, why not?"

So we started dating, keeping it secret from everyone at first. Then eventually people started finding out and one day her dad pulls me aside and is like "I know you and Phoebe are dating. I have no problem with this because I know you really well and I like you but just think about what this means for the school and everyone in it."

I took his warning seriously but just like everyone in this situation, they think they'll be fine and they just keep trucking. It did go fine. For almost two years.

Then it didn't.

I broke up with her and then I regretted it and wanted her back. So we started dating again and then, of course, broke up again.

This messed everything up. I stopped going to the school (and eventually my best friend did too). His girlfriend was roommates with Phoebe so that sucked too. Phoebe's younger brother really looked up to me and he was pretty hurt by this. Her parents were like my surrogate parents (especially since my parent's and my other surrogate parents were far, far away). Basically, I felt like a total dick.

My whole foundation in that town was wrecked. I mean, it could have been worse since she was basically the one that lost friends over it since my best friend and I were like the center of our group.

We had just graduated college and my best friend's girlfriend had moved to Texas for her student teaching so I was like "f*** this, let's move 1,000 miles south of this Hellhole."

And so we did.

I feel really bad about messing up that school since the five of us basically ran it and because of me, three of us left. I loved that place and I loved her and her family.

Ah, well, live and learn.

...and then get Luvs.

Like for the Hot Pocket one, the lesson could be:

Don't eat Hot Pockets.
Don't lay on your left arm.
Don't watch The Daily Show.
Never try to cool things off with your face.
Always try to cool things off with your face.

Oops, I suck at cagefighting

Like I told Shaza, I do not regret this fight at all.

I mean, obviously, I wish I had won but that goes for like 100% of all fights ever.

Basically, I think I was really well-prepared for this fight from a technical standpoint and I fully believe it was a winnable fight for me. I didn't really get that nervous, I was just waaay too complacent.

It's the same problem I have with tennis. I am not aggressive enough. I am too much of a counterpuncher and I just need more ferocity or something.

Either way, the guy was a wrestler with basically no stand up fighting skills. First round started and I landed a kick in his left ribs that didn't do all that much (that kick, I'll admit, sucked because of my nerves). After that, he took me down and was in full mount the rest of the round. Luckily for me, his punches were terrible. All he was able to do was remove my contacts.

Second round started and I opened with a front kick to his chest (kind of caught his chin too). This was my only opening the whole fight because he tucked his head down but didn't protect it and I could have easily ended the fight with a knee or at least knocked him down with a right uppercut. Instead I chose to flail wildly with a terrible right hook followed by a left uppercut that he blocked.

He then took me down again and unfortunately for me, this time he was using his elbows. I was able to fend most of them off but when a huge right elbow to my left eye rocked my head to the canvas, it bounced back up into another right elbow and eventually two more before the ref stopped it.

Broken nose (7th time it has been broken, first from a fight), both eyes eventually swollen shut and what I believe was a fracture somewhere in my jaw. Still clicks if I open it wide enough.

All in all, an embarrassing performance but I don't regret the experience at all. I just wish I had performed better.

And less than a month later, I tore my labrum (already told that story) and moved to Texas, where I did not resume my training. I think my arm would be fine to train again but I don't have the kind of time/desire to train the way I did while I was in college.
