The basics of "B8 Draws"
Every few days (probably around a week) we'll have a new topic with a new subject. Anyone is free to post their version of that subject using whatever medium they choose.
You can get as abstract, literal, creative, or ?! as you want with the subject: just have fun with it (unless you're a masochist of sorts.)
The goal of these topics is to give those that are interested something new to draw every few days.

Subject 004 - Tattoo Design
Pretty straight forward topic that you can do almost anything with. Draw some sort of tattoo design, hazzah!

Was hoping this subject would take off a bit more. >.>

Here is a WIP, about done. Waiting on a marker to do the rest of the skull and then going to airbrush the background a little.

Just covered it in masking paper and cut out the background (was slightly terrified I'd cut into the drawing) to get ready for airbrushing. Just need to go buy an air compressor now and hope I don't run out of the colors I'm using.

Copics. Just started using them last week and I already love them.
https://www.draftingsuppliesdew.com/ has the best prices I've encountered for them.

Michael's and Hobby Lobby also carry them for $7 a marker. Hobby Lobby also has small sets for $40 but you can use their 40% off coupon and get them for $24. If you want to try them out I'd suggest picking up the Skin tone set or the Gray set from Hobby Lobby to play around a bit.

Hmm. I've always heard good things about Copics but have never tried them. I think I might have to head to Hobby Lobby and pick up a starter pack. They look awesome.

I only have a few hobby stores around where I live, and they mostly focus on models/airplanes/trains and stuff.

The only thing I can think of for improving that design is to define the cigarette a little more, maybe giving it a thicker line so it looks more separate from the skull.
Or that could just be me. At first glance, it looks like it's almost part of the skull (same color, small line).

Just my thoughts.

Y'know, it kind of does.
I was wanting to put something like kanji in circles, but I also wanted the design to work from any angle. I guess I just couldn't make up my mind. :/

Aga: it's a really small thing but for me it feels like the wrong half of the glasses are broken.

You have the chip in the skull, the missing tooth, the cigarette and the broken glasses all on the same side of the face and it feels slightly off balance to me. It's a really small thing but it bothers me the tiniest bit.

And it's still completely ****ing amazing.

I see your point, but having the broken glasses on the other side would ruin the 'story' of it a bit.
Also I'm almost tempted to actually get this sometime.

Right obviously there was some kind of accident which explains why all the damage would be on the same side. Maybe the cigarette could be on the other side?

Like I love it, but part of my brain just can't get over the asymmetry.

Copics are great. They make coloured manga pages look amazingly beautiful.

I'm gonna skip this topic though, since I don't really feel like doing a tatoo drawing.

I know this is too much to ask, I can't think of anything as far as designs go so I don't know why I'd expect anyone else to come up with something.

Generally, tattoos need to either be really stark/simple or wonderfully detailed. Middle ground tats look pretty bad, in my experience
