I really don't like the riffing here, in the first forty seconds or so at least, we'll see if it continues. Okay that softer bit was painful and this is still not doing much for me, plus it's starting to get repetitive...wow, 2 minute song and its managing to drag itself out. Boo!

Getting a zero is probably even harder than getting a 10, because at least I know what the latter is; any song that could merit a 0 is a song I wouldn't have listened to enough to be certain it really did suck that hard. Also, you're a dick for trying to make me listen to something that will make my ears bleed.

Oh yeah, Linkin Park. Crawling, skin, etc. Funny thing is...this sucks but it isn't really that annoying. It's just kind of there. It's a very tolerable type of crap, the kind that you're still glad isn't in your body any more but it doesn't smell *that* bad and it goes away with a single flush. What a pleasant metaphor, hope no one was eating when they read that.

It's more for the potentially funny write-up.

Let's continue with bands I enjoyed ten years ago that I really can't listen to anymore.

The write up would probably just have me swearing and finishing with afodifhjewfiohefwiou because my head collapsed onto the keyboard.

So yeah, System of a Down. This is really bad. Like, really, REALLY bad. Is this serious? I thought I remembered this band being bad but not THIS bad. The vocals are an absolute farce and the music couldn't be blander if it tried. I mean, if it tried, at least it would be notable for the sheer blandosity of its blandness, but this is just unbland enough to be too bland to even stand out. I guess this explains why System of a Down is a band I've never been able to think of anything by, I'm going to have to down a bottle of whiskey tonight and hopefully by tomorrow morning I'll have forgotten this travesty exists. I guess it deserves a little credit for the comedy, although the fact that it probably wasn't unintentional hurts.

My opinion on Iced Earth in general is that after the first two or three albums they've been pretty uninteresting with the occasional decent song thrown in and so I don't really care about any line up changes they undergo now because it's not like I'll listen to them unless they come here on tour and there's a band that doesn't suck opening for them (or they're opening for a good band, but that's less likely).

Alright, Into Eternity. The soft beginning isn't all that bad, but once that ends I feel like this was deliberately intended to annoy me and only me. According to metal-archives these guys originate from Saskatchewan. And yeah, I'm one of the 81 people on the planet who can spell that name correctly on the first try every time. Suck it. Oh, the point. Yeah I think this is some elaborate inter-provincial warfare, and regardless its even more reason to mock Saskatchewan. Flat, boring province that produces crappy music. There's a reason all my family stays on this side of the border! What was I even talking about?

Unintentional comedy is a plus! And like I said, zero is pretty damn hard to get, I don't even have a clear idea for how bad a song would have to be to score a 0/10. Maybe if it literally caused physical pain, but then the production job on Ulver's Nattens Madrigal album gives me a headache sometimes and I'd not rate it too low, so even that may not suffice!

Song title is godlike, just want to point that out.

Otherwise this is not very good. There's a riff showing up a few times here that seems kind of good, but too much of this gets into standard deathcore territory and ends up being pretty crappy, plus the vocal style is not really fitting, it's kind of hard to pull off multiple types of death metal vocals in a single song well and this is not a good example of it, in addition to the fact that the whole pig squeal thing is pretty terrible. BREEE BREEEE. So exciting! This is getting worse as it goes, as the riffs get worse and worse and the guitar work in general starts to feel almost like it's trying to be lame tech death. In the end, it kind of sucks and gives me a vague urge to go brush my teeth. I don't know how that makes sense either but it would be a lot more fun than listening to this!

Well the "HEY"s in the beginning are already dragging this down a ways. Hmm, we're shaping up for that to be a trend, the vocals are consistently crummy and mess up what would otherwise be...mediocre <_< Okay so it's not a tragedy to screw up a potentially mediocre song (and the chorus isn't so hot regardless) but still, I dislike the vocals and will continue to reiterate that the vocals suck because I dislike these vocals and think that they suck because they're bad and I dislike bad things like these vocals which are bad. I think I just retroactively got an F in my grade 12 English class for that sentence.

As a general rule, I dislike repeated little vocal interjections like that unless it's the drawn out "ohhhhOOHHHHHohhh" style that changes in pitch a bit (see: Christian Mistress - Possession), and wow typing out that particular sound looks awful, doesn't it? One off ones are okay (like the "oh oh yeah" to kick off Maiden's Phantom of the Opera), it's only the repetition that really makes it sound silly.

Yeah I dislike most Ayreon now, used to be a big fan though. There's a couple songs on this album that I like or at least don't mind and one features a really cool section by a female vocalist whose name continuously alludes me (I think it's vaguely German? I could probably just look up the line up for 01011001 but that would spoil the fun). This isn't really one of them, although it's pretty inoffensive, at least for the first two and a half minutes; it kind of goes a bit downhill at that point, though not too far. It's the standard Arjen Lucassen problem, he can pull together a ton of talented people, especially vocalists, but then ends up using them mostly on really cheesy attempts at being epic. Huh, is that Hansi Kurch? I forgot he was on this album. Considering this album was basically the culmination of half a dozen concepts albums worth of zany alien time travel plot shenanigans, it kind of needed to be a lot stronger to do justice to whatever legacy it was hoping to fulfill. Oh yeah, this song in particular. It's listenable.

4/10

As for System of a Down, based on my experience of that one song they're one of the assiest things in the universe <_<

Megadeth - Peace Sells

Shifting from Ayreon to Megadeth is quite the change! I believe I've already given my thoughts on this album in general ("it's very good"), although I'll point out here that I find this track a tad on the weaker side; it's a bit too repetitive early on and the main riff isn't really forceful enough to carry it off. It still sounds okay, especially since you've got some nice guitar leads thrown in, but it doesn't truly take off until the second half of the song really ramps the energy level up.

You are now tantalizingly close to achieving your goal <_< And will be closer still by the end of this write up, I imagine.

I quite like Suffocation but I much prefer their earlier material (wow, a death metal band whose early works are their best? What a shock!). This isn't bad, but it just doesn't really have the same intensity or quality, and also I feel like Frank Mullen's vocals were at their best on Effigy, which is my favourite of their albums. Almost at the character limit so let's end it here by saying "I like it".

Meh is right! If I'm not all that huge on early Slayer, why would I like later, bad Slayer? Hey it's really cheesy melodic death metal, the kind that makes you think someone listened to a bit too much Arsis (and I don't even like A Celebration of Guilt all that much) and then thought it needed some "progressive" elements, and by progressive I mean the exact same stuff all the other crappy bands do. Also, these vocals suck. Sounds like the guy is struggling to get them out, they're somewhere between an actual death metal growl and just a gruff shout. It's really damn rare for me to really be this annoyed at harsh vocals unless they're pig squeals or excessive high pitched stuff. There's a guitar solo towards the end that I kind of like though. That's worth...a little.

DUN DUN DUN

Nope :(

You're almost as close as it's physically possible to get without getting the right answer. That's way too easy a hint so I'll just flat out say it: it's Liege of Inveracity.

Infecting the Crypts is pretty good too though! Only thing really holding it back is I feel like there's parts where it's kind of dragging its feet (notably the first vocal section) and it doesn't really have as much intensity; that latter is a flaw of "worse than the best song in the genre" rather than a "this is crap in a cupcake" so don't take it as too heavy a criticism! As I believe I've said before I love Effigy of the Forgotten, it's a top 10 death metal album for me and this is one of the stronger tracks on it, so it's certainly not getting a low score or anything.

System of a Down - Prison Song

Holy cow this is absolutely awful. Crappy chugging? What in the hell is this whispering? Was that an attempt at harsh vocals for a word? Man I can't even put into words how awful basically every single word vocalized in any way in this song is. I'll try my best: It's like eating a cardboard and tree bark sandwich then washing it down with toilet water. That sounds awful and unhealthy but it's like calling Tiger Woods slightly unfaithful, it doesn't do any justice at all to just how severe the problem is. This is seriously one of the absolute worst attempts at entertainment that I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing. I'd rather go back and ride that roller coaster with the messed up safety harness that basically slammed an almost entirely unpadded metal bar into your cheek on every turn than listen to this atrocity again.

You know, when trying to quote you, I accidentally hit message detail. Should have marked you for trolling while I was at it!

So yeah obviously Limp Bizkit is the best band ever to exist and people only dislike them because they're trying to look cool by being too "intellectual" to enjoy such obviously entertaining music, which is quite ironic because this song was clearly crafted with a great degree of thought and care in order to create the perfect mix of melodic bliss and aural excellence. As such, it can easily be discerned that anyone who doesn't recognize the sheer brilliance of Rollin' are those who are pretending not to. No one could ever dislike such a well written song. On its own merits, it analyzes every cultural trend of the past twenty years, even those that came along after its creation. Such was the foresight of the Bizkit, to accurately predict the future, or perhaps it was their seemingly prophetic words that inspired the course of history. Either way, this is sublime magnificence on an almost indescribable scale.

So yeah, not a big fan of In Flames. No, not even their early stuff. This isn't really bad, it's just...kind of there. The vocals are kind of shaky. And this is not a case of shoving stupid "melodic" elements into places they don't belong. It's simply that the song writing isn't all that strong. Basically, it isn't doing anything wrong so much as it is doing something right, but not overly well. Still, not bad.

9 plus is no easy feat! 9 itself isn't TOO hard though I guess.

So Holy Diver. I really, REALLY hate the intro. Far too long with absolutely nothing going on. It's one of the most baffling decisions in all of metal, quite frankly. And it's a real shame because the rest of the song is everything traditional heavy metal should be. If neither the main riff nor the "between the velvet lies" section can make you headbang, you may be in the wrong genre, or perhaps you have a serious neck injury, in which case I hope you make a quick and full recovery!

I believe I've alluded repeatedly to how much I dislike Michael Kiske, right? Because I do. Alright the beginning of the song is pretty annoying but it does tone down the stupidity and become pretty inoffensive aside from the painful singing (which is mainly reserved to the chorus because he's less annoying when he's not aiming for high notes). Well, up until the two and a half minute mark, it gets rather bad there, although the guitar solo is surprisingly not all that superfluous. Of course we have to end things on a sour note with Kiske being a nuisance and making me want to go back in time to feed him his own testicles before he could ever record any of this crap.
