It's not as simple as 'adult having sex with a minor', right? I mean... what exactly are the rules surrounding age of consent? How far is far enough to be legally liable? If actions occur in a state different from the one she lives in, then are the laws different?

Age of consent varies from state to state. Some states have "romeo and juliet" laws allowing teenage couples with age differences to not be considered rapists. This varies with state. Any sex stuff counts. It only counts in the state in which it occurred. Technically you could go across state lines and be fine legally, though there may be laws about transporting minors across state lines for bonage purposes.

What's funny is that there are accounts of ancient statues being so beautiful that contemporaries had their way with them, and you can apparently still see the stains...

Pretty sure the US has laws about transporting minors across state lines to get around age of consent. Also the age varies from state to state (or province to province if you're up here in Canada, and country to country across the world and probably more state/province breakdowns in some countries but I don't know any details).

Oh, you're 19? You should really check your local laws. In some places you get like a three-year grace period. Just don't post naked pictures of her on the internet or anything.

Yeah this is the big one. posting porn of minors is still a big no-no. 19 and17 is safe practically everywhere except parts of the midwest and south.

14 or under: Illegal under all circumstances 15: Up to 18 is legal 16: Up to 21 is legal 17: Up to 27 is legal 18: Official age of consent
I guess I've never actually looked at the official law, but this is what my Law Enforcement teacher (who was an active officer) in high school told us the law was, so I can only assume it's true.

19 and 17? Probably fine, it is for overwhelming number of states. Check the age in the state it happened, then what the exceptions are, like within what age is ok.
