Would declaring bankruptcy help your dad at all? I'm no expert, but it seems like precisely the situation bankruptcy was made for.

He's talked to a couple of bankruptcy lawyers. The problem is the house. It's a $200,000 asset. Having banks seize that would probably make the situation worse. He's better off trying to sell it on his own (which is what we're trying to do).
what if you put the house in YOUR name, then sell it, so you claim all the assets, then have your dad declare bankruptcy?

Can't, half of it still belongs to my mother. When I say he won the house, I mean that he won the right to live in it while paying $700 a month to my mother. And when it's sold, she will get half.
